1Up is running a feature where they analyze the
current hype, the machine, and how the launch will go for the Nintendo Revolution. The piece goes on to say:"Love it or hate it, the U.S. launch of the Nintendo DS was packed with games specifically pointed at the Western audience: Spider-Man 2, Madden '05, Asphalt Urban GT.& OK, maybe some of these should never have been released, but here's the point: Nintendo can, if pressed into action, mobilize third-party publishers to have launch games readied."
That's the most important thing for the Revolution: third-party support. If the Revolution can maintain a steady stream of third-party releases then we'll see a much more drastic shift toward Nintendo when it comes to market dominance.
" At any rate, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has told a Japanese newspaper that he sees the Thanksgiving holiday as being an important target to hit in the U.S. market, so we're probably assured that Revolution will be out by then. In stark contrast to Sony's usual method, the Japanese release may actually come slightly later, as with the Nintendo DS in 2004."
Who do you guys think will get the revolution first: America or Japan?

Japan will get the Revolution first of course, but there there might not be much of a gap between releases. I would guess a September release in Japan followed by a November release in the US. Nintendo has a long legacy of releasing their products in Japan first and I doubt this will be any different. If anything they may do a simulatanious release, but only if they'll actually have the supply to back it up as to not repeat the disaster that was the 360 launch. The reasoning for Japan getting products first I believe has to do with the population concentration, they can get a lot of units out the door and into people's hands very quickly because of dense metropolitan areas. The US, on the other hand is so spread out that the release strategy is a bit different and numbers aren't as easy to track. I may be wrong, but that's just my theory on the whole region release scheduling.

the only problem I could see with a US first launch is a feeling of betrayal by the japanese since they werent the first, although according to this entry, the DS launched in the US first, and it obviously has had no problems whatsoever in japan, so I think thats a moot point. We may just have to wait and see on this one.

It will most likely be the japanese. Game companies always say it is important to get the japanese launch first.

you know... the obvious answer would be to launch in japan first... BUT.
with the recently breaking "news" (rumour... but still) that sony's ps3 *may* not launch in the US until '07, (seems doubtful, but not out of the question completely) you'd better believe that nintendo would do anything they possibly could to make their US '06 *really count*... i think there is even a possibility of nintendo taking the japanese market for granted, and delaying the launch there just to make sure that demand is met in the states... nothing hurts a console launch more than demand exceeding supply (xbox360 or dslite anyone?)
anyone agree?

Here's how I think the Nintendo Revolution will get distributed world-wide:
Japan: September 16th
United States: November 20th
Europe: December 12th
Hopefully Satoru Iwata will shed some light during his keynote speech at the GDC next week. If not, I'll ask Shigeru Miyamoto, Rich Amtower, Nate Bihldorff, or any other people I know at NOA at E3 for the truth! (Most likely Nintendo will spill nearly everything at E3 though without me asking). :)

No doubt about it - the Land That Hates Xbox will get the Rev before we do, since only the home-boys are the true contenders for gaming dollars in that country. Nintendo would be seriously shooting themselves in the foot if it went elsewhere first.
Is it Thanksgiving yet??????
