Firstly, this is what analysts are paid to do, forecast what they think will happen in the years to come. Their job is to do research on these topics, as a result they have a pretty good idea as to what may happen a few years down the line. Are they always right?, no, but they are giving their best educated opinion.
Secondly, Nintendo is primed for a bit of a comeback here. As ABI said, the free multiplayer will help leave some spare change for people to DL online content, not to mention the incredible archive of classic masterpieces that Nintendo has and will be offering up for download to the Revolution.
Overall, I think that this prediction will be pretty accurate.
