Have you been a long-time poster at Joystiq or one of its awesome network-affiliated sites, only to see others have stars placed next to their name (or negatives) and wonder what exactly dictates that rewarding or stripping of star(s)? Well, Joystiq's Vlad Cole has broken down the star system to show you exactly how it works. These guidelines apply to all the Joystiq network sites:
- Value: Does the comment enhance the topic at hand and add new perspective to the discussion? Is it a good question or interesting insight?
- Impartiality: This is hard, especially for Fanboy sites such as this, but as much as we loudly proclaim this system to be the superior, it detracts from the discussion at hand. It's OK to be touched with Fanboyitis, however try to curb it as best as you can as to not damage the topic at hand whilst commenting.
- Civility: This is just common sense. We all have opinions and want to share them, however as human beings we have the ability to exercise civility, even during the most heated debate.
- Other: Humor, wit, and bribes of cold, fresh chocolate milk. We like chocolate milk.

To date, RevolutionFanboy has issued 4 stars. According to the right hand column of the page. I feel the majority of the commenters must have too much Humor/Wit, and not enough chocolate milk. It can't be the impartiality rule holding us all back :).

Add a column that requires people insulting others' intelligence to use appropriate spelling and grammar (as a display of their own intellectual superiority).

I dont think imparciality is an issue here. We all agree that Wii are the best, and the rest should stop trying...
Jokes aside, I think part of the problem here is that RevolutionFanboy is often the 'ignored' one. During the E3, all Nintendo Wii news were posted at Joystiq. I patiently waited for them to come here, and it never happened, Just one or two hands on really appeared here.
Since I read both sites, it doesnt really matter, but it'd help clean up Joystiq, since thats the whole point of having all these *fanboy.com sites.

Bryan,
For awhile, our star system was not active on Revfanboy, something which has been corrected and is in full swing now, hence the post above.

I have a similar question to Nushio's. How do you get a majority of your information and why did you have a derth of content when it came to E3 news; well actually let me rephrase that. Why when you did get the content that you had, you posted it later, sometimes much later than other sites. Is it because that a lot of the top dogs at E3 don't really see you as a big site and don't give you the first dibs on stuff leaving you to wait for someone else to post it and link to them?

Well, I'm no fanboy, but from time to time I do come down with Sony-Hateritis, but it always feels more like common sense than disease.

I'm curious. To go from 1-2 and then from 2-3 stars, for example, do comments have to be that much more impactful, or could one collect stars by remaining to post with the same level of quality that they used to earn thier first star, without increasing quality?
To put it a little more clearly, does someone's current number of stars affect how likely they are to earn more or less later on?
Also, I would offer chocolate milk... but I just ran out >.< Forgive me?

Ritz,
There is no "leveling up" system to the stars. Stars are rewarded for the above listed reasons, and the longer someone comments with intelligence, the more stars they will gain over time. That's all there is to it.
And, what is this, no chocolate milk?! Get to the store pronto! :)
