Will it have the same component cables for 480p as the Cube??? I don't want to have to buy another set

It would be excellent if it used the same video and power cables as the Cube. Then I could just unplug a console downstairs and plug it in upstairs and not have to worry about wires. Yeo.

Damn, there goes my theory that the sensor bar was USB and powered only (no signals, since I think it's possible that the sensor bar doesn't need it. Possible.), so you could plug it into a usb device charger for a projection screen and thus not need a long cable crossing the room.
I guess it's possible also that Nintendo might make a plugin version if I got it half right, but it doesn't seem at all likely now.
I wonder if it's not USB so people don't plug it into their computers and think it should work like a mouse, then complain that it doesn't work.

Yeah, it was definitely done to keep the hacker riff raff from emulating Wii games on their computers with full use of the Wiimote.

#2 tush:
I wish it were so, and early models of the system looked like they would support the GCN component video cable. The shape looks like it would fit pretty well. Unfortunatly, there is a problem. Where would you recieve sound? The GCN component video cable was not designed to transmit both video and sound at once. So, it appears we will need to pick up a Wii specific component video/audio cable this time. Shame, as I was really hoping for some backward compatibility... I dropped $109 CAD on my component video.
#4 Moogle,
I think the first and foremost reason that it is not USB is to ensure both ports are free. It wouldn't make much sense to advertise two USB ports only to force the customer to always occupy one just so you can play the system, would it? People will do stupid things with thier stuff, but I think the worry about consumers trying to use it on thier computers is a secondary thought, if any.

I guess I forgot that it doesn't have optical digital audio... which would clearly make sense

A few things:
- If the decision to use a plug other than USB was made only to keep two USB ports free, why didn't they just add another USB port? There is definitely a benefit for Nintendo to use a non-standard port.
- If the sensor bar did use USB, I'm sure it wouldn't be long before someone created a program to translate its signal into usable code for the mouse. Just because it wouldn't be plug-n-play doesn't mean it couldn't work.
- I give it six months before somebody does just that, and sells an adapater to convert the sensor bar's plug into USB. That's the easy part; the harder part is Wii game emulation. Therefore, for a long time the setup wouldn't be used for much more than a geeky way to control a mouse.
- The pic on IGN shows the sensor bar's cable. There looks to be plenty of coil. Based on the pics I've seen of the sensor bar's size, I'd say the cable has got to be at least 20 feet long. That should aid in all sorts of setups.
- Does anyone know if the plug is also giving power to the sensor? I don't mind a non-standard plug, but I really don't want another power plugin for the sensor.

Emulation isnt going to be a problem seeing how current gen systems cant even be emulated yet.
Im juts wondering what Ideas nintendo has for the USb ports, besides a hard drive.

I like how all the cables are similarly shaped with the "cut/key corner" on top left for all cables. That a nice simple bit of "user ease of use" right there.

I see the plug is the same shape as the "mystery hole" on the patent drawings that was a subject of debate a few months ago:

I suppose they had it planned this way all along. I really don't know why it wasn't on the mock-up before.

The Sensor Bar input looks like a FireWire port.

Don't you mean "Sensor Bar port Wiivealed?"
OK, awful, yes. But it's the ONE Wii joke I've made the whole time the name's been public. Everybody gets one, right?
