Pokemon in motion
We're not trying to suffocate you guys with You Tube videos here at The Fanboy, but there are just so many gosh-darn good ones right now that we're forced to link them. Like this Pokemon Battle Revolution footage! It really looks polished and could possibly be the game that gets me back into the franchise. But honestly though, why doesn't that whale just eat everyone?
[Thanks Austin!]

Uhhh... the "whale that could eat everyone" is called Wailord.
A bit more knowledgeable professionalism would be nice.

doob: If Halo can claim their newest vid was realtime and not CGI, why cant we?
Also: That video really does no justice. You need to see a HQ version, preferably from gametrailers.com to fully enjoy whats being displayed.

Does the name of the whale really matter? He made the comment that he doesn't play anymore, so why would he care about what it's called?
This does look much cooler that the Pokemon Stadium that I got awhile back, I may just have to try this out. Getting to see them actually beat the crap out of each other is always fun.

Forse: Your being sarcastic right? Regardless, how can anyone not make fun of the franchise at this point. I am with the editor on this one. Was hyped when it first came out (and I was in my teens) but the 20000 variations of the same thing all with terrible stories... You must be one of those kids that came an hour before school started to play the cardgame with your friends at the age of 18 and took it way to seriously...

Doob: When has nintendo ever shown us CGI footage instead of real gameplay. heck, nintendo abrely even uses cgi scenes in anyof their games.
and you also have to remember, its a pokemon battle, so besides the few pokemon, 2 trainers, and background, there isnt much on screen allowing for higher poly counts. Just look at stadium on n64, those models looked way too good for an n64 game as well.

I never understood the series.
Can someone please explain to me how a (presumably) 4 ton whale can float effortlessly over the battle field?
(if anyone has an idea about the answer, tell me)

That may be so, but polished? The video looks pretty low quality to me....oh you mean the actual game!
The only thing that really interests me at this point is the physics of the game (did anyone find out about the "floating whale syndrome" yet? No? O.K. then). And by physics I mean like the damage done to the field.
It looks like it's finally becomming more realistic (concidering that it's pokemon were talking about).

the whale is floating because its a water pokemon, and instead of segregating the battle field to have its own area in the water, they have them float instead if they dont have any egs/limbs/tenticles to stand on

Exo,
i'm not trying to say you're wrong but, wouldn't it be more realistic if they just didn't let you use it? It would make much more sense (but then, we ARE talking about pokemon. Nothing makes sense in this franchise).

if they didnt let you use it then it would be limiting the pokemon you can use, adn that would make no sense at all.
We are talking a game here that has hundreds of characters that have to interact wiht each other. they need to make it so all characters are on even ground. It may sound odd, but it is more resonable then making hundreds of new animations just so a few characters can be interacted with if they were in water.
Perhaps you need to understand that nothing makes sense to you cause you dont know much about the series.
most of advanced science makes no scense to me. but thats because I dont know anyhting about it.

Why don't they just make an action game out of it? Why do those adaptions always HAVE to be so boring (apart from the mini games, they are the best I have seen for a long time..)

Exo,
you're right on that point. Now that i think about it, most little kids who are gonna play the game don't understand (or care) about physics. All they (and other gamers) care about is the game (well except for Sony fans, all they care about is the SUPER COOL GRAFICAL POWER!!!!).

I dont think you even understand what physics is.
physics is forces applied to objects and how they react to them. Floating characters that are stationary have nothing to do with physics.
I think you are meaning realisim in general, which is way more broad then physics. and if you are looking for super realisim in a nintendo game then I think you are a little misguided.
I myself do not care about realisim as long as the game is fun.

I pulled the wmv from IGN, it does look a lot better. What impresses me particularly is the realistic shader effects on the models, it means the Wii is not just GCN+, there is additional tech.
As far as the floating whale goes, shaa, Here in africa, we get those all the time! ;) It's a fantasy kids game, I've never seen a electrical Pickachu in real life either. (Why doesn't his hair stand on end? ;) )

Is it just me or did I hear him say "DS" in there somewhere? Pokemon has always been big on connectivity (hell, it's the reason most of us had link cables for our game boys) so it wouldn't surprise me a bit.

The problem with Pokemon Stadium for the Nintendo 64 was that it was just battles (and a few fun mini games). It should have been more like Pokemon for Gameboy, with the adventure, exploring, and things like that.

Personally, I love YouTube videos. Game footage and cutscenes are always welcome, and YouTube actually loads in under a half-hour. Keep suffocating us. :)
