The latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly has some interesting bits of information for us Wii fanatics. First, it seems as though several developers have actually turned from PS3 development over to the Wii, in reaction to Nintendo's strong E3 showing. Many appear to be frightened of the high cost of development and consumer price point of Sony's behemoth, and the Wii's familiar Gamecube-like architecture is surely a sight for sore programming eyes. Secondly, LucasArts seem to have finally heard Nintendo fans' cries for a lightsaber game; word on the street is that they're already on their way with a new exclusive Star Wars game for the Wii, based heavily on lightsaber mechanics. Thank the Force.

A big surprise since EGM has always struck me has incredibly biased against nintendo. Reading their issues was always disgusting as they were so anti everything nintendo did. The news is interesting and the support behind the wii seems to be incredible. I hope a light sabre game would be developed along the same lines as say Jedi Knight but with wii controller focus and not some lame over the top gimmick though. Sabre fighting is cool as long as there's a point to it.

Something else to think about... (sorry for the double post). Can you imagine how star wars fans would flock to the wii if they were told they can "become the jedi," wielding their own light sabres? Judging by the massive attendance at Star Wars 1-2-3 despite the... somewhat shoddy performances some of them had, I can see that as a big win.

im tired of people saying mags are anti nintendo, thats such bull. just read the reviews they get. I guess mario got game of the month because they ahte it so much huh?
nintendo has had lss coverage in mags mostly dueto the fact their systems have ahd less games for a long while. I ahve never seen egm trash nintendo unjustly.
so really the only biased people are the ones that claim everyone else is biased because they dont praise nintendo for everything.

I think I just came in my pants.
Force powers would be sooooooo fun with it too, Pull and Push would be very intuitive. Even the lightning if you were so inclined to be a Sith (rolls eyes-LAME!)...

I wouldn’t believe that rumor about 3rd party developers ditching PS3 projects for Wii in a million years.

I would believe it if they have any sense of "Business". But I'm sure there'll be some developers still willing to risk that kind of overhead.

Pit: I don't think the argument will be of much concern in a million years - PS4's release will be imminent!

I think the best game would be like a jedi aprentice game. Not like the lame one for xbox though. One were you start off as a padawan or something and get to make you own lightsaber and pick like 2,1 or a 2 sided lightsaber with the classes like kotr but sort of live action like rpg.

Yeah. Also you could choose to be good or evil by descisions you make in the game, like in Fable.
It would be a First Person Adventure and you'd go on different quests. Being good would improve your force powers and being evil would improve your lightning powers! You would have lightning, force, lightsaber, and some other weapons mapped to the d-pad on the Wiimote and hold A while swinging your arm around wildly! Wooo!

They didn't say which developers, apparently, so I think it's quite possible that some developers jumped ship to work with Nintendo's showstopper, considering the potential for new types of games and the lower development costs. Most likely these developers weren't big names, because those big developers have the money to invest in the PS3 and will most likely be developing for all platforms anyway.
Also, the idea of a Star Wars lightsaber game for the Wii is not only a great idea, but quite an obvious one. I'm sure they've been thinking about this since the Wii's interface was announced. However, seeing how great it's doing in the media and all the praise being heaped on it, they probably decided recently that it was worth doing.

If LucasArts makes a Star Wars game and it's even half way good and the controller makes the sound of a light saber as you swing it around, that one game will single handedly sell more Wii consoles than any other console in existence and guarantee Wii as being the Console race winner by a huge margin. Mark my words!!! People have been waiting 20 years to be able to swing around a real light saber and hack droids and storm troopers to bits and this will be as close as you'll be able to get before real light sabers are invented (which will never happen).
