An observant -- and hopeful -- Mario Kart fan tipped us off to the most exciting news of the day: a possible teaser site for a new game! With bated breath, we loaded the site. The cool, crisp image of Mario brought a collective sigh fluttering from our lips. Yes, friends, readers ... we wanted to eat Mario, we wanted that game so badly. We could taste him.
But a quick check of the registered owner of the site dashed all our hopes into a tiny pile of shattered dreams salted with the tears of disappointment. Looks like someone grabbed a domain early, just to beat the rush. Sigh. It's-a not Mario.
[Thanks, Marc!]

Personally I'm more excited about having the SNES MK to play on virtual console.

Thanks Wiifanboy!
But it's upsetting (actually that's an understatement) that the site wasn't even owned by Nintendo. Oh well, we'll see Mario in his NASCAR spin-off sooner or later.

NASCAR spin-off? I, and I would imagine many others, hope we never have to endure such a thing.
I'm glad that wasn't made by Nintendo, it looks terrible. They could have at least used something aside from the highly recognizable MKDS shot. And centered the freaking thing.

Isn't it illegal to blatantly register domains that companies will likely need for future use? I thought I asked it somewhere. If it's not illegal, then someone should start a business at buying up domains and then earning a profit when companies purchase them from you.

Its not illegal, but a comapny techincally can sue, or give an order to cease and desist if you are using their trademark, eg.Nintendo Wii Fanboy, a company would only do so in the case of illegal swapping of games (bittorent), or illegal use of game. If I made a site Mario's corner, they can't do shit, but if I made a site called MarioKart Double Dash, and my domain name was www.mariokartdoubledash.com/ , the could force me to transfer the domain. Also there are people selling domains on Ebay.

6, that crap happend all the time. A while back when I needed to buy a .com for my site I came across many urls that had been glommed up by the likes of Go Daddy and others of that sort. Then there were the ones who wouldn't sell it to you, but would let you pay a monthly fee. Oh, how courteos. Some others would allow you to use it, but they kept ownership and could pull it from you at any time.

DSMeet recently had this sort of thing happen to us by a Jonathan Yantis. We have dsmeet.com, and Yantis then bought wiimeet.com. I'm convinced that he wanted to squat the domain just to inflate the price when we would logically look to buy it.
