In what has to be the coolest promotion of the year, 7-Eleven is offering 711people (of course) a chance at a free Wii starting in November. Distressed because there's no 7-Eleven in your neighborhood? Not to fret, fanboys and girls -- the official rules include a backup plan for those of us denied the pleasure of a Purple S'Creme. Until the Wii becomes available as a prize in November, there are other goodies to tide you over, like iPod Shuffles (that look like they can double as a pregnancy test stick in a pinch) and portable DVD players. Now that's [Thanks to thebigL for sending this one in!]

From the site:
"November 1, 2006 through January 31, 2007
the following Instant Prizes will be available to be won: (711) Nintendo Wii, ARV: $299.99 USD ($399.99 CDN) each;"
That better not be true...

Wow
When I first read that, I thought it was a joke. I'm gonna enter (seeing as how there's a 7-11 across the street) ;)

^ If it is true, it is a package prize. With games, extra controler, etc.

Whoa. Talk about weird.
When I opened my e-mail to confirm my comment, I saw a spam ad for (you guessed it) the Wii and 15 games.
(now of course there's a catch, but it's cool to see Wii ads.)

@Draracle (#4)
It better be, because Nintendo canNOT sell Wii for $300 (I mean that they can try, but it won't sell). That better be a package with two $50 games or something (probably Zelda and Metroid or something).

I bet us in the good ol' UK aren't allowed to enter either. i've never even heard of the company so don't think we have any stores over here....
i this day and age though entry to competitions like this should be available world-wide, not just to residents of the USA!

Nice catch on the "approximate retail value."
I imagine that Nintendo'd lose a whole truckload of the goodwill it built up over the past seven or eight months if it retailed at $299.99
And I think that if that /was/ a bundle, they'd have to disclose it on the official rules. And what's even more interesting is that they have pegged the price of the 512mb shuffle correctly, and the portable DVD player shows a ARV of $106.00. Those are pretty specific values.
Did the Big N just get outed by 7-11? HAH!

7-11's ARV for AOL's MusicNow service for 3 months is also the current pricing for that service. I'm thinking 7-11 just inadvertently released the Wii pricing.

Is 7-11 leaking info about the release date?

It's just a guess by the contest holders as to the Wii's official price based on previous consoles' launch price. Contest holders often over-estimate if they don't know the MSRP.
The other products are specific because, as far as I can see, those prizes are already available on the market (or have a price announced).
The Wii will be available, in some form, for less than $250.
