While a lot of people are actively wondering where EA's sprawling Spore won't turn up, we can tell you where it is likely to appear: on the Wii! Color us unsurprised that Will Wright wants to turn Spore into a franchise powerhouse; we all know what happened with The Sims. With the evolutionary sim, however, Wright intends to focus on the differences of each platform, and he's pointing specifcally to the Wii. Or should that be with the Wii ... mote?
In comments this week, Wright let two very telling details drop. First, he lauded the Wii in its creative potential, mentioning specifically the controller (of course). He went on the decry the lack of a mouse for consoles, pointing out that this was something of a limiting factor when dealing with games for both the PC and consoles. The Wiimote, however, can point and click with the best of them. We're betting that we'll be getting ready to guide our own species next year on the Wii.

If anything it will be better than a mouse. The Wiimote is more like a 3D mouse and I think it would be even better for modeling 3D creatures.

Err, on post #3, a keyboard attachment for any console seems incredibly stupid to me. It would be really hard to use a keyboard and mouse without a desk, and most RTS's (not counting a few like Age of Empires 3) will work on the average PC, so there's really no need to spend all that money on a keyboard and game for your console when you could just get an RTS for PC.

Also, to me this news is the greatest news ever! I'm really looking forward to the Wii and Spore, but I don't want to upgrade my computer if Spore is really demanding, so Spore on the Wii sounds awesome.
And to Marc and Pat, where did you hear that Spore is coming to consoles? I'd just like to confirm it to myself.

V, that theory works well for people who are made of money. For those of us that have to choose between a mediocre computer and a kickass console, more console functionality is an inherently good thing.
Not that I expect console keyboards to take off. I expect to see integrated voice command before I see console keyboards.
