IGN has picked up word from their super-duper secret sources close to Nintendo of Europe that a follow up to last year's Super Mario Strikers on the GameCube could be making its way to the Wii. Further speculation adds that the game could be unveiled at the Leipzig Games Convention later on this month. Citing the reasons why we would see a sequel to the franchise on the Wii, IGN was quick to note that the game has sold 500,000 copies since its December release, making it a prime candidate for the sequel treatment. It currently has a 76% average ratio through Game Rankings.[Thanks Josh!]

While the game was okay, I think the big reason it did well was (strangely) the refreshing take it had on the Mario characters. Not only did it give us the first and only hot drawing of Peach in existence, it also featured the other Mushroom Kingdom denizens looking like they were going to rip each other's throats out. (Wario, in particular, was rather cool, even though the game didn't respect his obvious role as one of nature's goalies.)

I absolutely love the gamecube version.
Try buying it at a cheap price on ebay or wherever and you'll see it's still held it's price. A sign of a good game.
This really excites me.
