A recent IGN Podcast has unveiled some interesting tidbits related to the Wii. Now, we all know IGN's information comes from the shadiest of places...scarred men whispering secrets in dank alleyways, unnatural seances with souls departed...but if they're willing to dive into hell's inferno to obtain some info, then we're certainly willing to
take all the credit relate it to you, the faithful reader. So, without further ado:
- Nintendo may decide to move Super Paper Mario directly to the Wii, as the Gamecube is essentially dead in the water. This would not only make financial sense, but finally allow us at Wii Fanboy to cover this excellent looking game. We
want to believe it.
- Metroid Prime 3: Corruption may not make the Wii launch after all. This is directly contradicting several months' worth of continuous confirmations by Nintendo and Retro Studios, and would take a lot of steam out of the superlative launch lineup. We doubt it.
- Dragon's Quest: Swords also may not make the launch window. We see no reason to disbelieve such a thing; Square-Enix loves their delays.
- Excite Truck has been confirmed as a launch title. Why not?
- LucasArts has indeed been developing a lightsaber game for the Wii. Yeah. We know.
- Publisher THQ has 6 to 8 titles in development for the Wii. Seeing as how they're handling the more lighthearted affairs (Cars, Spongebob), it seems plausible, but none too exciting.
- At the Leipzig Games Convention (coming soon!), Nintendo and third parties will reveal exactly how they intend to port more traditional game fare from the PS3 and Xbox 360 over to the Wii. Uhhh...sure.
And, there you have it. As a special bonus gift from us at the Fanboy, here are some complimentary grains of salt.

It's doubtful on the Metroid Prime 3 rumor. Then again, I don't wanna wait, I loved MP2 so much, it's almost been 2 years!

Wasn't it mentioned somewhere recently that they were still working on a multiplayer solution for Corruption? I could see that delaying the release. There's the all-important launch day to think about, but Nintendo isn't known for releasing unfinished products. It's going to be a tough call for them if multiplayer isn't working like they want.

- I don't see why Super Paper Mario needs to be moved to Wii-only. Wii is backwards compatible, so they'd only be limiting their market by making it Wii-only. All I see them doing is slapping "Also plays on Wii" stickers on their final few GameCube games.
- I don't see why MP3 would be delayed. It looks to be finished; it's been built on a upgraded MP2 engine so it shouldn't have taken too long to make. Retro has announced that there will be no multiplayer at release, but they may allow a multiplayer to be downloaded via WiiConnect24 later on, so that wouldn't cause a delay either.
- With a slight graphical-downgrade (in SD) and use of the Virtual Console controller, most ports will be easy to play. I'd prefer developers hand-making ports for the Wii, like Call of Duty 3 is going to have motion-sensitive portions of the game, but more games = better, so I'll take what I can get.
- And hopefully LGC = release date and price info.

I could see them delaying MP3 just so it's not in direct competition with Zelda. Frankly, I think it would make more sense from a business standpoint to evenly space out the Zelda, Metroid, and finally Mario Wii releases.

I hope Super Paper Mario is forwarded to the Wii. It would be a terrible shame to release such an awesome game on a system where barely anyone would buy it.
Is there really any point in releasing Gamecube games now? How soul-destroying must it be for the developers to put their heart and soul into making a game that no-one's going to play?
Sure the Wii is backwards compatible, but surely it would attract many more people if it were a "current" Wii game rather than an "old" Gamecube game.

An MP3 delay would really piss me off, but i think if anything, it would wind up available for Christmas at the latest
Now why the hell won't my Gamestops let me reserve anything????

Why make Super Paper Mario for the Wii only. The Wii plays Gamecube games, so it could play it anyway. Plus, there will be a lot more Gamecubes out there when SPM is released compared to the Wii.

Yeah, a few months late wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for MP3, though I'm sure the double-punch of Zelda and Metroid would be best for Nintendo's launch.
