Ever since Reggie received his big promotion, we haven't seen him in the news much. We're Reggie fans here and can assure you that our posteriors ache on a daily basis and somewhere deep within Reggie's coat pocket he has a piece of paper with all of our names scribbled on it. This is fact. The interview, which contains the usual talk of Nintendo aiming at bringing new gamers into the fold and creating an easily approachable experience that is not intimidating to people from all walks of life, does talk a bit about the company's goals in the online arena. Most importantly, free, out-of-the-box online gameplay. An excerpt from the interview:
Q: How do you extend your online strategy to Wii?
A: It's the same premise. We will offer online-enabled games that the consumers will not have to pay a subscription fee for. They'll be able to enjoy that right out of the box. The Wii console is going to be Wi-Fi enabled, so essentially, you'll be able to plug it in and go. It won't have hidden fees or costs.

The article is definitely postive, and from USATODAY, which will get Nintendo some needed media coverage (okay, so they've been getting coverage, but more is better!).
I was also interested in this part:
"Q: Your background is in marketing. Without divulging competitive secrets, can you characterize your marketing plan?
A: It's going to be massive amounts of hands-on activity, as well as showcasing exactly how Wii games are different. We're going to create advocacy. We're going to make it so that everyone who tries the Wii experience talks to their friends and neighbors."
That's really what Nintendo needs. Their slogan "Playing=Believing" needs to be backed-up, and I'm glad they're focusing on that. Kiosks will really sell this system.

REAL marketing.
Marketing with SUBSTANCE not hype.
Hands-ON.
There is no damn way, and The Rock means, no damn way that Nintendo will fail next generation.
No mistakes have been made. They got this sewn up!
DOMINATION is at hand.
You better get ready.
'Cause you're about to enter Nintendo World.

I think Reggie said it best when he said "Both [our competitors] believe that more and more performance with a higher and higher price tag are their keys to success. So what do I see? I think our two competitors will trade share between them, while we go off and grab share in a completely different way." He understands the market for video games all too well. If there is anyone out there in the business world that Nintendo needed it was this guy to set them straight.

That's Microsoft, Not Nintendo.
Hype: We will change the industry, We are the only innovators. The Wii has even more secrets.
That's Hype.
Substance. The company that released playable demos to the public durring E3. The company who showed nothing but real games, despite the negetive press about real games vs. the target renderings from the compitition.
The Wii isn't Here yet. We don't know how much it cost, we don't know what it's comming with, we don't know much. But.. "That it will change the world" How is that not Hype?
