Note: This editorial is the opinion of David Hinkle and does not represent the opinion of Wii Fanboy, Joystiq, or Weblogs Inc. Leave it to the PSP guys to be immature and bait us into an all-out fanboy war. Especially one they cannot ever hope to win. While we'd like to be the more mature blog, without a response to such a heinous act of defamation would show weakness, and you know we are anything but that. So what made these guys think the PSP had such an excellent show?
First off, we all need to sit back and look at LGC with an objective eye. It wasn't the huge show that all of the recent coverage made it out to be. This coverage, which came after the demise of E3 as we know it, was largely in anticipation that the major companies would look to Leipzig to fill some of the gaping hole left by E3 and a potential price and launch date revelation for Nintendo's Wii.
Now, since we were all disappointed that Nintendo did not reveal the price and launch date for the Wii as we all anticipated, we'll concede that the Wii hardly deserves best of show. Even in revealing sequels to Battalion Wars and Super Mario Strikers, we're hard-pressed to boast that the Wii really rocked the German house. Also, every time we see Red Steel, it looks as if the game is getting progressively worse graphically. That isn't all that's important, however, as intuitive controls and fun gameplay have been the motto from the get-go, so we're hoping Red Steel ends up being a much better title than the various screens and previews make it out to be.
With the ridiculous showing at E3 that the Wii enjoyed, it's amazing that they wouldn't try to maintain that momentum coming out of LGC (they sure maintained it leading up to the event). Regardless, it's not as if the Wii had a horrible show, just that Nintendo failed to capitalize on all the buzz leading up to it. Without responding to the months of speculation that we would get this information from them during LGC, the show was left for anyone to "win" and Sony's little handheld had some impressive games. We don't think the handheld did as well as the DS, though.

Before the comments start piling in, keep in mind that we are discussing who had the better showing at LGC, not the merits or features that make one system superior to the other.
Thanks for reading and keeping it civil!

uh..
I thought the PSP showing was pretty weak...
Having Metal Gear doesn't mean the system "wins a show." Using that logic, konami won, not psp...
Metal gear at E3 made NO difference to anyone... so just because LGC is a smaller show, and they let people fondle "it's piss poor controls that make the game more eye candy than 'Solid'", it stood out more... but seriously the whole show was weak, not just PSP... it's a small show compared to E3 and TGS, people weren't expecting much from anyone but Nintendo I think.
I could care less who 'wins' LGC (of all things) anyway.. as long as DS games keep selling over a million per release (almost), it's clear who the winner is.

Honestly, I think it was an across-the-board draw as to who "won" (or lost)... it all seemed like status quo for all the companies to me.... what we really need is for the Wii to come out so we can PLAY IT!!
After E3, everything is bound to smack of anti-climax until we get that puppy in our hands :)

The whole thing was just a big tease, but alot of people were expecting E3 volume and in reality this is not the event to give it. It would have been nice for them to drop the date, or the price, or some kind of secret as there are few events between here and the potential launch windows.

Yeah, it seems the closest thing to E3 goodness nowadays is PAX. And that's only measuring in the size of the event. They're pretty fundamentally different, so who knows if we'll ever have a tru E3 successor?

I will succed E3 then, not as a gamesconvention but by turning it into a person, and this person shall play games day and night, and live on the edge of thought. one day they will arise from the ashes of the old E3 and a new age of gaming will enshroud the world. Or maybe I won't.
