We've all known that Nintendo would be periodically releasing their own first-party games in the Virtual Console, but details have been surprisingly scarce regarding third-parties jumping on board. We know big names like Sega and Hudson would be giving gamers a taste of their illustrious pasts, but who else? Well, add another to the list, because according to a recent financial report, Tecmo will be aggressively supporting the VC.Perhaps best known (on Nintendo systems, anyway) for their superlative Tecmo Bowl and Ninja Gaiden trilogies, the addition of these games will provide yet another added boost for Nintendo's library. Although recent Tecmo titles have shown up on other systems, we'll get to experience the wonderful roots from which they came.

Now can anyone tell me how Microsoft has not secured as many games as Nintendo has for their virtual console? Xbox Live arcade dates back to the original Xbox (late in its life of course)! I am confused on why Microsoft has not been able to secure AAA+ retro titles! They were doing ok with guantlet and smash tv, then nothing (and no...street fighter doesnt count lol...unless they give me street fighter 3). Nintendo has secured over 200+ titles, from hudson, tecmo, NEC, Sega, Namco, etc. What gives? were they just waiting for nintendo?

Mike: I don't think Microsoft really 'gets' the Virtual Console. Pac-Man and Frogger are classic games, but they really aren't that engaging compared to more modern titles. For some reason thier focus is on Arcade classics from the 70s-80s. The problem is, the only people they are going to attact with games like Pac-Man are my parents, who aren't going to spend $400 to play it.
Nintendo on the other hand is focusing on the games that make emulators so popular. Sure, playing the original Frogger is fun (for about 10 minutes), but playing the original Rygar and Ninja Gaiden will keep a gamer enthralled for hours on end.
Where MS has gotten it right is with games like Hexic and Bejeweled, which port simple puzzle games beloved by office workers looking to kill time. These types of titles attract the casual gamer.
IMHO if Nintendo _just_ came out with a VC by itself with all thier back titles, I'd easlily pay $200 for it. Throw in Sega, Hudson and other third party favorites, it's almost like I'm getting the Wii thrown in for free!

That's nice and all, but if they ported the new Ninja Gaiden (the one that showed up on the XBox, the best game I've ever played) or, better yet, made a new Wii-only game, I will spontaneously combust in happiness.
