Call in the rumor patrol, 'cause the triumvirate is complete. Nintendo has scheduled press events for Japan and the United States for September 14, and Europe the following day. Three major regions, three events -- there's little doubt that this, finally, will be the information we've been waiting for. In just two weeks, we should finally find out when we'll all be lining up on Wii-volution day. The trio of press events comes a week before the Tokyo Game Show. As anticipated, it seems Nintendo wants their announcement to stand out, rather than have it come as just part of the announcements from another show. So here it is, folks! Last chance to make your predictions. The clock is ticking.
[Thanks, DerekJ!]

I can just imagine Reggie getting up on stage in NYC and making a launch announcement a la Steve Jobs: "This is a great console; best system we've ever made. And they're shipping... today."

This is very auspicious as it occurs on my daughters birthday. Guess I'll have to get her a Wii, oh darn. :)

I think I just piddled my pants a little bit...
though I'm sort of thinking the release date is going to be later than sooner. I hope I'm wrong, but whatever day it is, I'll be happy.

I was talking to a guy in the local gamestation store and he thinks the whole system's going to be delayed until 2007 and twilight princess is going to be Wii-exclusive.
just my 2 cents.

Max, since Nintendo has already announced Twilight Princess launching simultaneously on Gamecube and Wii, and have announced the Wii will be out Q4 2006, and that it will beat the PS3 to market, I don't see much support for your friend's idea. At least I hope he's wrong!

#6... gamestation man is wrong. cuz uh... well cause he's not nintendo. Nintendo made a big deal just recently about how you have to buy the gamecube version of TP to use the GC controller. oh yeah, and my local "gamestation man" said to look out for the Leipzig Game Convention in Oct. cause that's when they are gonna announce the price.
goes to show how much cashiers know. the 07 thing scares me a bit cause it's technically still possible. however, I do know someone who is very well informed and works with Sega's music production team who's seen/heard Oct. 28th dates around the office. not that it matters cause those are just ETA's which always change just like in any manufacturing environment.
In other news, a Gamecrazy employee I talk to every now and again said they won't be taking any preorders as the corporate expectation is that it'll be an apple style delivery where it's just announced and then (nearly) immediately sold. He too had gotten confirmed ship dates of 10-28-06 on some third party titles. Nintendo published stuff all is listed as a generic "NOV 06".

OCTOBER 2nd! I just think that sounds like a great idea, but then again, it would be a major "ROFLMAO" moment if Reggie did say "Well, this lovely day of September 14th seems like a good enough day, sooooooo, it's released now, have at!" and then just started throwing Wii's into the audience and all of a sudden stores just started selling them. Wow, the internet chatter on that little marketing move wouldn't die down for like 8 years! Not likely. . . OCTOBER 2ND!

Considering those countdown clocks that Nintendo shipped to European game stores a few weeks ago, I don't think a sudden release is very likely. October 28th sounds about right.

I won't be buying one at launch. I'll wait til after Christmas when some parent, mistakenly, gets an affordable Wii instead of a power hungry PS3. The kid will be upset, and the parent will return it, thus granting me an (almost) new Wii.
I can look forward to this cuz, unfortunately, Nintendo fans are few and next to none on Long Island.
