Marching band plays gaming hits
Sure, we could make jokes about how being in a marching band is lame and one's only choice should they be horrible at sports, but we aren't that kind of judgmental blog. Instead, we're the type of blog to pay homage and respect those who manage to convince their superiors that a videogame-inspired medley of tunes should be the focus of the half-time show. That's what this wonderful MSU marching band did, playing tunes from awesome Nintendo games such as Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda.
They also played something from a Microsoft game, we believe. Something having to do with angels?

Hey! Don't diss the marching band. I fail to see what being bad at sports has to do with being in the marching band. Do you really think all the cuts from the football team pick up a trombone?
At least give them credit for a couple good formations, like an NES controller just before SMB, and a triforce at the end of Zelda. The rest wasn't spectacular, with weird formations and so-so arrangements.
So yeah, check out a really GOOD marching band sometime.

Dignan17,
It was never my goal to offend anyone, but merely to comment on the stereotyping present in today's views of band and any variation of. I even said in the post that we aren't being judgmental.
Thanks for reading!

A couple of good formations!!! I thought we did a spectacular job, and im sorry you didn't enjoy it like everyone else.
Also, thanks for posting our band joystiq...it's not everyday that Mississippi State University does a video game show, or any marching band for that matter.
GO STATE!!

the camera isn't backfield, we play to both sides and the side the camera is on is actually the front.

oh jeeze that was mississippi state? I go to Michigan State (also MSU), and in 2005 the marching band did a videogame half time show as well, consisting of Mario, Zelda, Halo, Megaman, and a couple more. talk about a coincidence, the 2 MSUs. Guess I should have realized since we have a big S in the middle of our football field.
go green!
