EB Games/Gamestop/EB Gamestop or whatever they're called these days occasionally gets some inside information before the press. (I say occasionally; please hold off on the "my local EB Games employee told you the Wii was coming out December 17th" tips.) A quick search of Gamestop's online store in the accessories section yields some interesting results, shows as follows:Wii Controller Glove 9.99
Wii G-Pak Travel Case 29.99
Wii Game Wallet 9.99
Wii HD Premium Component Cable 59.99
Wii Memory SD 1.0GB 59.99
Wii Memory SD 512MB 39.99
Wii S-Video Premium AV Cable 39.99
Wii Sling Bag 29.99
Wii Storage & Protection 1.0GB Kit 69.99
We knew about the Power Glove, but the SD cards just seem like a convenient excuse for Gamestop to take people's money; the prices are quite high. The premium component cable is insanely expensive, but hey, it's premium. Other than that, your classic game-toting sling-bag take-it-anywhere-but-not-really-because-no-one-ever-does-that accessories are on the list. With the immediate need for extra controllers, memory, and games at launch, is anyone going to pick up any of these other things?
[Thanks, Randy!]
[Update 1: Clarified that the SD cards are not officially from Nintendo, and realized that you can in fact get SD cards for far cheaper.]

Man my release day expenses are going up quickly.
Wii ~$200
Extra Controller ~$30
Component Cable ~$60
Games ~ $100 for a couple
I was hoping that the component cable would be included this time around. I wonder if it will have to be a Nintendo cable or if I can plug any ol' component cable into the back of the Wii? Oh well, it will be worth it to see Zelda in its progressive 16:9 glory.

You can get brand SD cards with 1GB (Toshiba, etc) for under 15$ from amazon. Or you can find 4GB cards from dedicated online shops for 60$. At the time the Wii launches prices might still go down a bit.
I'm a Nintendo fan, but I wouldn't buy expensive SD cards only because Nintendo is written on them. :/ SanDisk, Toshiba, Kingston and Panasonic will do for me.
Does anybody know other good, reliable brands?

Gosh.. I'll be racking it up with:
Wii ~$200
Zelda ~$50
Monkey Ball ~$50
3 extra controllers ~$30 ea
Component Cable ~$60
------------------
$390. Oh wait, that's still less than a 360 premium or a BASE PS3.

The question is are those official Nintendo products or third party accesories? People are dumb enough to buy SD cards for $60, and I wouldn't put it past a third party(or Nintendo I guess) company to try to sell them at that price.
Also, $60 for component cables? Hell the fuck no!

Ok, I just checked the site, and those are all third party accesories like I thought. MadCatz and others. Oddly the SD card actually IS from SanDisk. I'll try my luck with Amazon thank you very much.

My guess that the component cables will have the usual "Nintendo only" connection, as with the SNES, N64 and GCN.

For people with certain iPods (I know mine does it anyways), couldn't you enable it for disk use and use it to store game info? As far as I can tell, it works just like a flash drive. Of course, I'm not a big computer-person so just tell me if I'm completely wrong. I'm just thinking it would be easy for me since I've got it mine with me all the time.

The question being... how much for additional Wiimotes? I'll spring for the component cable eventually... but my wife's already gonna crap when I blow $400+ on launch day for an extra Wiimote and games...

I guess you could use the ipod. I could also use my archos 20GB mp3 player as well.
A problem could be that the Wii formats the media in some proprietary way (I'm don't know anything about tech, so don't nail me on that).
Let's just wait and see.
I'd like to see some Japanese prices, as I will get a Japanese Wii (probably next year). I hope the Wii itsself will be under 20000 Yen.

Holy crap, $60 for the "premium" component cable...
And I gave Sony crap for not including an HDMI cable.
Damn.

They are just place holder products and prices, again gamestop is showwing they know nothing about anything, which is funny cause they account for most of the market.

Actually, I do stuff like that. I have an Intec game case for my gamecube because I take it with me when I go visit relatives or vacations. I'm gonna get a traveling case for the Wii, but seriously, I'm not buying a stupid sling-bag. Or game cases for that matter, because I own plenty of cases the discs could fit in.
But here's what I will buy:
- a Wii
- 2 extra controllers
- and an SD card from Walmart or somewhere.

I don't think any of these are first party products. It reads like a Mad Catz catalog.

Well, I was thinking of picking up an S-Video cable for my Wii, but seriously... $40? I'll probably find one that's less (I hope).
In any case, I'll probably end up buying SD cards from Best Buy when I need to.
And what in the world is "Wii Storage & Protection 1.0GB Kit 69.99"? Does it really have to cost that much?
And seriously, with the Wii being around 3 DVD cases stacked, there's no need for the sling bag when a regular backpack and some large purses (at least my sister's) can easily fit that, plus the controllers, plus a few Wii game cases. This thing will be easier to carry around than the Gamecube if you think about it.

Hate to burst everyone's bubble, but that "Wii Controller Glove" is most probably a controller cover. I've worked at my local GameStop for years and we've sold similar "gloves" for portable systems. Many of you probably have a similar, leather glove on your cell phone. My name on this post links to an example.

you know... that 1 gig SD card seems kinda like a rip off to me... Hell I can get one for 30 bucks at Fry's, or maybe outpost.com... oh well.

I was going to say, 10 bucks did seem a bit cheap for that. Your suggestion seems much more likely.

GameStop is always trying to rip off the consumer with those stupid $1,000+ bundles for the 360, and now they wanna charge $59.99 for a third party SD Card? That ridiculous, I have a 1GB card for my camera and w/shipping + tax it came out to about $45. My advice to consumers, go to GameStop to buy the Wii and some games, and go somewhere else for accessories.
