Play-Nintendo has a "reliable list" (yeah, we know how those are) of games that are rumored to be on the Virtual Console. But it looks reasonable, and in fact, some of the titles are already confirmed by various sources. Their list is packed with classic titles, and some of them (oh, Castlevania, how we love you) are expected but still exciting, and others many of us still play on lazy Sunday afternoons (Ocarina of Time, anyone?) If this list turns out to be the real deal, we may have to take some extended breaks from our actual Wii games. A fanboy's life is full of difficult choices.
Play-Nintendo also reports that their "source" confirmed five brand new games for the Virtual Console, but they couldn't reveal the details. We'll see.
What are you dying to see? Frankly, we think Super Mario Bros. 3 is a necessity, if only because we know there'd be videos everywhere of fanboys reenacting scenes from The Wizard.
If you could add any three games to this list, what would you choose?
Full list after the jump.
- Bonk's Adventure
- Castlevania
- Duck Hunt
- Excitebike
- F-Zero
- Kid Icarus
- Legend of Zelda
- Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
- Mario Kart 64

- Mike Tyson's Punch-Out
- Mortal Kombat
- New Adventure Island
- Ninja Gaiden

- Prince of Persia
- R-Type
- Rayman 2
- Sonic the Hedgehog

- Super Mario 64
- Super Mario Bros.

Anyone think The Adventures of Dizzy or Big Nose the Caveman could end up on here? They were the CodeMaster games. Nintendo didn't like them.
Assuming all the Zeldas and Marios will already definately be available, as they're Nintendo's property:
3. Chrono Trigger
2. All the Mega Mans / Mega Man Xs
1. All the Dragon Quests

I've already got roms for most of those, so VC games better be cheap or have some sort of online multiplayer.

Here are my picks for games that really, really should be on the VC:
1. Gain Ground - they would be FOOLISH not to include this prince among princes (Gensis). Two words: Must Have. MUST HAVE.
2. Herzog Zwei - one of the first RTS games and also one of the best (Genesis). The kids in school would think the Wii was spiffy keen if Herzog was around.
3. King's Bounty - the predecessor to all of the Heroes of Might & Magic games and that ilk (Gensis). Army of peasants FTW!

I think the biggest news is squeezed at the very bottom of the article where it says:
"Additionally, there are at least five brand new, never seen titles in the works for launch on VC as well. Our source was not able to comment of specifics of these games, only that they are currently being developed."
If so, it may be circumstantial proof that Nintendo is allowing 3rd party developers to do distribution via the Virtual Console, which would be a Big Deal(TM) considering the low cost of dev kits. I think they'd be fools not to do this, but assurances are always nice.

These titles seem likely except for one that makes me question the validity of this source - Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!
After his "issues" with Robin Givens back in the day, Nintendo dropped Mike Tyson off the title like a bad nabit and re-released it as Punch-Out!! with a different final boss. When Super Punch-Out!! came out for SNES, Mike Tyson was nowhere to be found. All of this was BEFORE the Holyfield incident. I could see Punch-Out!! being re-released, just not Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!.

I agree with SuperDave. Having "MT's PO!!" here makes this list just as suspect as if Nintendo included Popeye (NES) on here. Not gonna happen.

I can assure you that 3rd parties can distribute games across Virtual Console.. I would know, I'm making one.. hehe :) Anyways, thats the only bit of news an actually developer can give you. There's more that virtual console has to offer and you'll find it out soon. As for the 3 games?... Hmm. Bionic Commando, Rygar, and Blaster Master

Well on the original link it's listed simply as "Punch-Out!" without Mike Tyson. So it might be something this blog added when copying the list over, or whatever.
Titles I'd like to see:
Legend of Zelda: Link To The Past
Pilotwings
Legend of the Mystical Ninja
I'd love to see old versions of Madden and such, so you could play as Joe Montana again.

Gah, hard to name just three... I will just name the more well known games...
Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (N64)
Super Metroid (SNES)
Double Dragon 2 (NES)
So many more I could add... and I think this is due to stupid business trickery... so they can make more $$$... I kinda hope this isn't for real... Hmm, maybe they won't put every great game up at first, as to try and sell more of the not as great games... if that makes any sense???
Anyhows lets just wait and see :).

If they don't include GoldenEye I don't see the point. They should make it (online) multiplayer as well.
After that I'd say A Link to the Past and Pilotwings should be in there.
