Joystiq has a man on the ground in NYC, on-hand during the madness now taking place. He is relaying information, much-needed information, from the press event and we're going to leech said info in the most ridiculous way possible. Keep your eye here as we transport the info over from Joystiq with care. Other sites such as Engadget are also covering the event.
The news so far is after the break.
- Confirmed price of $249.99 on Nov. 19 in U.S. with Wii Sports pack-in. Worldwide debut is in U.S. Reggie: "One price, one config, one color: white." Included in box seems similar to Japanese system, besides Wii Sports.
- Games will cost roughly $49.99.
- Virtual console games will be $5 for NES, $8 for SNES, $10 for N64. Super Mario 64, Super Mario World, Donkey Kong and Legend of Zelda at launch.
- Thirty titles in U.S. by year's end, about half at launch. Launch games include (compiled from GoNintendo/Engadget): The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Excite Truck, Trauma Center, Madden 07, Need for Speed: Carbon, Elebits, Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz, Metal Slug Anthology, Rayman: Raving Rabids, Red Steel, Barnyard, Cars, Avatar, Blazing Angels, Far Cry: Vengeance.
- 10:01 AM EST [update 1] The remote will sell for $39.99, the nunchuck for $19.99. Gamecube version of Zelda will come out Dec. 11, after the Wii version on Nov. 19.
- 10:04 a.m. EST [update 2] Nintendo again pledges 6 million units worldwide by March 31. The U.S. will get the bulk of units, sold at 250,000 distribution points.
- 10:07 a.m. EST [update 3] Metroid Prime 3 won't come out until 2007.
- 10:10 a.m. EST [update 4] Pokemon will be the first online game, ready for Dec. 2 launch in Japan, "shortly thereafter" in U.S.
- 10:15 a.m. EST [update 5] The press conference is over.
- 10:18 a.m. EST [update 6]: Some more launch details up top from Engadget.
- 10:24 a.m. EST [update 7]: Tidbits from GoNintendo -- all first-party games are widescreen, third-party games could be more than $59.99. From Engadget -- the picture editor can play videos.
- 10:26 a.m. EST [update 8]: From Kotaku's liveblogging -- 2000 Wii points = $24 Canadian ($20 American).

Good parts:
-Channel interface, and being widely enjoyable
-Wii Sports pack-in
Bad parts:
-ONLY WHITE AT LAUNCH!?!?!? I JUST TRADED IN MY WHITE DS FOR THE BLACK ONE!
-No mention on DVD playback. If they want this much options for appealing to everyone, it should be out of the box
-MP3 in 2007? Come on, we were promised on launch
-Remote+Nunchuk is expensive! 35/15 woulda been nicer
-Launch lineup is not what it seemed at all compared to what we thought at E3
-No wifi online games till later (Because if PKMN Battle Rev is the first one and thats in December...)
-but seriously... NO BLACK COLOR AT LAUNCH!!!
-Laucnhes two days after PS3? It seriously makes a difference. Come on, they're ready to do two days before PS3.

@1 Better than paying 40 bucks for another controller and 60 bucks for games, I guess. I am suprised at the launch date itself, apparently Nintendo isn't worried about PS3. Launching after PS3 is a gutsy move. I don't know if it'll pay off or not.

I must say, nothing too shocking here. Every change makes sense. If you want Zelda on day 1, you need a Wii (good move, Nintendo). Samus and Link get to bask in their respective glories instead of competing (good move, Nintendo). Only 1 SKU, and everyone with a box has something to play (likewise). And 4 million Wiis worldwide in 2006? Nintendo is in good shape, folks.
VC Console pricing also seems right on from a market standpoint. People are going to gobble those games up, despite seeming slightly high in price to a lot of us.
Now would be a great time to own some Nintendo stock if you do not already.

should have been $200 for the wii, its only a modded gc. For $250 you want to see 2 controllers and a game. Only including one controller goes completely against the 'wii' thing. This thing should be £150 in the UK ($250 usd = £132), but it won't be.

It's very telling that an extra controller with nunchuck costs $60. That had to drive the price of the system up.
I'd much rather do without Wii Sports and get the system for $199. There is a big difference in the American consumer psyche between $199 and $250, I think.
Interesting that you can save your “Mii” image to the controller. I wonder if you can take game saves with you.
The absolute biggest shock to me is the launch date. If someone buys a PS3 on launch day, they’re not going to have enough money left to have lunch at Burger King, much less buy another console for $250. There won’t be many PS3s on launch day, though, so maybe that won’t be much of a problem for Nintendo.
GameCube Zelda being moved to December doesn’t seem as strange to me as the fact that they are still making a GameCube Zelda at all. I think Twillight Princess should have come out last year for the Cube, but since they couldn’t accomplish that, they should have scrapped the idea all together and put all their resources into polishing the Wii version, especially the controls, to make it the killer launch app it deserves to be.
No Metroid Prime 3 for launch isn’t too back, as long as Red Steel is awesome. One great shooter will hold me for a while. Besides, I’ve always been more excited for Red Steel anyway.
The prices for downloads seem about right, and the large number of titles is great. I can’t wait to see a complete list.
The other Wii channel features are a bit of a oddity. I could care less about having a calendar or news or storing pictures on another device. I just want a game system. Seriously, how many people who are willing to pay for high speed Internet have trouble accessing news or using a calendar program? I don’t think those features will be the draw for non gamers Nintendo wants them to be.
Overall, I’m dissappointed by the higher price and later than expected launch date, but still looking forward to playing Zelda come November.

The $250 price tag isn't too shocking. I'm a little taken aback by the $60 for a complete controller, but since your profile can be stored on your remote I see it turning into something like the DS... I just don't go anywhere without it. It's a bummer they didn't announce any info on DVD playback, but most people have a DVD player of some sort so we'll survive.
The major thing I wanted to comment on though is that people are getting up in arms on some games not having online multiplayer. Much like 360 and PC games, Wii games can be patched. This means developers, should they feel so inclined, could release multiplayer patches for their games on Wii Channels later on. This also means we can get content updates too.
Let me also bring up another interesting point for people who do not agree with the price. While true Wii Sports probably isn't worth that extra $50, the fact that we won't have to pay a yearly fee for Wii Channels like you have to for Xbox Live is well worth it.

This is disappointing for me. The whole Wii pitch was that it would be less powerful machine that their competitors, but would cost much less and refocus games on fun.
Now, it costs only slightly less, and only has one controller. The one controller thing really ensured that I won't be getting this anytime soon. How much would it really cost them to just include another controller set?
The Wii was going to revolutionize the console market. Now, its just a decision whether you are loyal to a brand or curious about a new controller. Of which you only get one.

I was pretty dissappointed with the Conference. Here is why:
$250 (if the price was going to be that high why did they lead us to believe otherwise)
$5-10 for the VC (not as bad but just a little much)
No Online Games (also sucks but DS started without Wifi)
Weaker Launch than expected (where are the games like Far Cry , MP3, Splinter Cell, and others that were promised at Launch, also not too big a deal but why mislead us?)
BUT the thing that I think is crazy is thw 60 dollars for the new controller. They have been hyping the multiplayer aspect of this thing forever but to get the additional 3 controllers needed for a 4player game would run you over $180!
Im still going to get one, but I don't think this price justifies the claim that the Wii is the console for the casual gamer.

Anyone notice the use of points versus plain currency? What do you think the chances are of getting points for doing things in-game? There has to be some way of accumulating points other than purchasing them, otherwise it's a pretty worthless system, though it might just be so that they can set their own exchange rate across the markets.

Did you miss the quote from the Nintendo rep that said that the Wii will not be more than $250 a few months ago? That should have raised the red flags in your mind that the Wii would cost $250. I'm also disappointed with this price--if they have sold 2 Wii controllers and Wii Sports with the Wii, it would have been much better.

I'm pretty dissapointed by all this... For one thing, the system costs $50 more than any past Nintendo system and it's is comparitively less powerful for its time. Plus, it costs $180 for four players (with nunchucks), which is a necessity for many people (myself included). That puts the price up to $430. It'd be a lot more reasonable if it cost $200 and included two controllers.
Plus, nobody's said anything yet about the cost of the classic controller. It's possible we'll be able to use the GameCube controller to play SNES and N64 games... but I don't think it's very likely given how Nintendo's already sucking so much money out of us for controllers.
Also, $50 for each game is too much when they cost so much less to make than PS3 and Xbox360. I would see $50 as a price only for top-notch games such as Zelda.
One more thing... no online games at launch? When Nintendo is competing with Microsoft's Xbox Live and Sony's new online thing, how can they afford to do that?

Actually my friend "Gaye Mann" your incorrect. It IS more than $250, lets not forget taxes young padawan. So the actual cost is $250 + roughly $16.25. Plus if you want to buy another controller your gonna have to shell out $60 bucks more...ohh and lets not forget those beautiful taxes. So yeah kinda dissapointed for the price, even though I will still buy it but I guess I won't be buying Red Steel for a while...I really wanted it at launch :(...and you know why I'm not gonna get it a launch...lets do some math...Wii $250 + Controller with nunchuck $60 + Red Steel (which I'm not gonna buy now) $50 = $360...ohh the irony...and lets not forget the $23 bucks for tax...and the grand total is....$383 dollars...so yeah I'm getting the wii...and some time later an extra game.

I've been waiting for this info since the first time the Revolution news started circulating. Sadly...I feel a little disappointed. Maybe that's because of the prices. I guess the Wii channels did it. Or maybe every person complaining just fell for too many rumors. I know I was one. I just knew it was going to be $200, or at least I wanted to believe it. So instead of being pissed off at Nintendo...think about how you set yourself up.
Anyway, I'm excited about the launch. It comes out 3 days before my birthday. :D
Yet even though I'm a seriously hardcore Nintendo fan - I think I'm going to wait until 07 to get it. So that way the prices will have gone down just a little bit...or when Super Mario Galaxy comes out. ^.^
You know what? I just realized that I have to buy 3 extra controllers.

I'm not super pleased with the 'paying for Opera' thing, when it was reported all over that it would be a pack in, and not cost you to use.
I'm somewhat upset about the value, they did say that what you were getting you would think its a good value.. I'm not overly convinced.
I'm not super keen on the pricing for games, I'm hoping they change some of that tune and allow start releasing smaller titles under the first party pricing.
I'm not super pleased with the launch date, now going in after Playstation, even though they said they would hit market before.
The controller cost is.. very high.. I realize though its a highly technical piece of equipment though, and hopefully games don't require you to buy 3 other nunchuk attachments for multiplayer (Although, soon as something like Farcry/madden/otherwise show up.. thats all blown)
Maybe it's just me, I realize Nintendo isn't a company to lose money at any point selling its systems or otherwise, I just hope that this is just a little bit in the black, and not a handsome profit on everything.

All I'm saying is that Nintendo better release it in Black within 2 months of launch, or they're gonna lose me as a customer for a LOOOOONG time.
Didn't THQ have an event in NYC about a month ago where they had Black Wiimotes? That should mean it isn't hard to make a color change, right?

Some of the comments here crack me up. Everyone's complaining that it's so much more expensive than I thought it would be and it doesn't include all the stuff I thought it would. Keep in mind, all the info you've been hearing about price and what would be included was based on total speculation and rumors. Nintendo is releasing it when they said they would, at the price they said they would. Yeah, it would have been great to get it for $150 on Oct 1 and have it include 4 controllers, 3 games, and a "I heart Luigi" fanny-pack, but that's just not realistic. It's still a much better bargain than the XBox 360 or PS3, and the fact that the system includes any game impresses me -- when's the last time a major console did that at launch? I'll gladly spend $250 for what is sure to be the most enjoyable console of this generation.

For months Nintendo has been saying under US$250. They delivered on that, so why are people moaning. Sure I'd love it to be US$150 but come on. Also the controller is a little more expensive than the old style. And it needs a sensor bar.
It has a game bundled (At least in North America), so that's an added bonus.
The release day has me a little perplexed. A bit more saturation before the PS3 would have been nice.
Game price seems good.
The VC prices look spot on. Some site had said they'd be up to $50 which was insane, but it's nice to see they're a respectable $10 bucks.
Metroid not being available is a bummer. I was really looking forward to that and I want to get a few titles on launch.
I like the idea of the channels. Someone above mentioned why view news and weather...Well, I hate having to go to my computer to do that if I'm already in the lounge. This way I can just use the Wii (24 hour on). And besides, the weather viewing app looked damned sexy.
Overall, pretty good news I think

Plenty of disappointment to go around. How much is the XBOX hardware selling for now? $150? The Wii has pretty much the same specs as the first XBOX. Why $250?
November 19th?! Come on! By staying quiet for so long, speculation of October release dates have set the consumer's expectations. I believe there was also some verbage along the lines that the Wii would release BEFORE the PS3. But we all know the real release date of the PS3 will probably be at least 6 months after they send 5 units to each retailer in Nov.
Wii's focus has been on playing with others and getting everyone involved. $60 per controller set? You're making us choose between having everyone involved and buying games. Nintendo is making money on their hardware. 2 controller sets included out of the box is not out of the question.
Let's do some math.
PS3 = System, controller, and 2 games. ($600)
Wii = System($250), controller, 2 games($50), DVD player (at least $50 if it even exists), no Blue-Ray, no HD (high devinition/Hard Drive), inferior hardware = $350
What does a Blue-Ray player cost? $200? What does a USB Hard Drive cost? $100 The PS3 is shaping up, and I'm a Wii fan.
Okay, half the price if you consider the system will come with one game. (A practice that consoles should re-adopt)Don't get me wrong, I'm going to get a Wii and won't go near a PS3, but Nintendo has just made a case for the PS3 whether they know it or not.
The PS3 fanboys are right. So far, the only thing Nintendo has going for it are it's franchise titles and its wireless mouse in disguise.
The prices and launch date are extremely disappointing.
