It's probably not a good idea to try and trash the Wii with little-to-no fact behind your fiction. One columnist found that out, the hard way, and now we have someone else trying to put the "man pants" on and beat down Nintendo like they're his red-headed stepchildren? Oh, no, we aren't having it! Like Forrest said "stupid is as stupid does."And that's exactly how this piece is coming off: ignorant. Why are you trying to write about the gaming industry and put weight behind your word after you profess to not even be a gamer? That totally validates your opinions, amirite? No, it does not. On top of that, you profess that "if you're a serious gamer looking for serious graphics and serious choice, you'll gladly pay double for a serious console." For being a "non gamer," you sure do know our kind well. Also, since when does "serious graphics" make a console and/or game? Some of the industry's best games have had sub-par graphics!
We're usually calm-headed and objective, but this kind of biased "journalism" gets under our skin. We'll call a spade a spade any day of the week and while our blog is named Nintendo Wii Fanboy and our header image reiterates this title, it by no means makes us irrational, over-bearing fanboys. We love Nintendo because of the great products they provide us, not because they give us "serious choices."
Whatever that means ...

He seemed to know what he was talking about so I'll just go claim this as the best thing for everyone.

Maybe because non-gamers are now Nintendo's target audience?

Meh... I dunno, reading the article it doesn't seem like he really "trashed" it so much as said "That's neat, but my money's on the PS3"

I love the part about his kid wanting a PS2 after he got a N64. Well, duh, they were released four years apart, of course the kid want the new console. I bet he wanted an XBOX and a GameCube, too.
I'll come back to this website in four years when the Wii has destroyed the PS3 and see what this guy is saying then.

Reading that was almost totally pointless. It seemed, to be honest, more like he was initially trashing the Xbox than the Wii.
The sad thing about articles like this is not that such people think that others should care about their personal opinions or biases, but that people -do- care enough to perpetuate the proliferation of such pieces. Of crap, no less. *sigh*

Dave, he means "this website" as in, the blog site with the stupid guy.
But if you really want, the bunny could get it anyways. We need some practice in before Raving Rabbids releases anyway, right?

It was just a really sucky article in general. It was not interesting, didn't prove any good points, didn't talk about anything new, and it was somewhat poorly written.

@David,
Okay, okay, I'll stay on one condition: you fix my name in the contributors list - somehow it got all jumbled about and nobody seems to care :(
But yeah, I meant itwire.com.au, which I refused to actual go to and give this chump a page hit. The only reason I know about the N64 vs PS2 thing is I read it straight from gonintendo.
Somebody should be keeping track of everybody that says the Wii will fail; it'll be great blackmail material in a few years!

"However, if you’re a serious gamer looking for serious graphics and serious choice, you’ll gladly pay double for a serious console. The Wii and the PS3 are simply not in the same league."
That's total BS. Not only is he a non-gamer, but I feel I can confidentally call myself a serious/hardcore gamer. Not every serious game is going to go out and buy every console (like some assume that's what it means to be "hardcore"). Furthermore, the entire gaming community, as well as the general community, has been buzzing about the Wii. I'm not saying I won't play the PS3, but I'm sure as hell not buying it.
I'm a serious gamer, who does enjoy graphics. However, with the Wii at $250 and games around $50, I'll easily have money to buy a 360.
Here's how I think it'll work out. The Xbox 360 will match the PS3 in graphics for about the first 4 years of the PS3's life. Of course, people have to realize what this means. After those FIVE years of the 360's life, we'll be seeing Microsoft's NEXT console. In other words, if the PS3 will truly get sooooo much better (like all the Sony reps are claiming) over the next ten years, it'll be okay, because the sequel to the 360 will match and/or top the PS3.
His son wanted the PS1 4 years after getting the N64. That sounds about right as to what will happen if he buys a PS3.
He thought he was in the doghouse before? Wait until he's stuck with a PS3 for an additional five-years. Meanwhile, the sequel to the Wii will feature HD. Even Iwata has stated that--that'll happen.

Thanks for the help David.
@Next-Gen-Gamer,
Good post. I too am going the Wii60 way; I have all three current-gen consoles, but Sony's priced themselves out of my gaming budget. I think a lot of these arguments are started by people that don't agree on definitions of "hardcore" and "serious" gamers. I've been playing video games for 15 of my 20 years; I've owned every Nintendo console, plus Sega Genesis, PlayStation, PS2, and XBOX. If that qualifies me as "serious", then count me as a serious gamer that has absolutely no interest in the way Sony is going with the PS3.
What I'd like to know is if Sony is serious about their "multiple PS3 versions" plan. They've talked like they want to release a new design every year or two, updating the hardware and such. I only see this as a negative because it screws over early adopters; and developers wouldn't be able to code for the improvements since millions of consumers wouldn't have the new hardware. This leads me to wonder, if Sony has its way, if PS3 games will start coming with a "Required/Suggested" spec listing so that you know what model you need to play the game. I don't think it'll get that bad because Sony should be able to see the weakness in this plan, but they've made some drastic mistakes in the recent past, so who knows?
BTW, Wii2 will, in all likelihood, support 1080p, 5.1 to 7.1 digital surround sound, and will have a 100 - 250GB harddrive. After all, by 2012, HD will benefit nearly everybody and digital surround will be nearly required for gaming.

I think this one of the funniest articles I've read. This guy instantly loses credibility with saying "I’m not a gamer but my kids and all their friends are. They’ve never quite forgiven me for buying them an Xbox a couple of years ago (on the advice of a friend) instead of a PlayStation 2." Does he really care what his kids think of him that much? I mean, what parent in their right mind is saying, "Timmy, I know you wanted a PS2 but I bought you a XBOX will you ever forgive me?" Man, when I was growing up my parents were, "You want a video game console... get your own money and buy it." If he is making this choice based on what his kid says (which we all pretty much know changes with the wind) this isn't just a stupid "gamer" (I use the term loosely) he's a dumb parent to boot. Why is it major news sources are still looking to non-gamers to write video game articles? Would these same new sources go up to a police officer and ask his opinion on how a new mars rover would measure the atmosphere and then use his comments as a basis for what NASA is planning? No, they'd be laughed off.
As with most of you my plan is to go the Wii60 route, sorry reggie I've got a DS. Sure, I might miss out on some PS3 exclusives because Sony knows how to write a contract (I direct you towards the people that made LocoRoco), but I am not buying a PS3 ever. My main beef is the price, but a close second is that I don't think Blu-Ray is the future. I'm afraid HD-DVDs are going to win out with the consumer because right now they are more affordable. From what I've seen there is a ten dollar (USD) difference between the two.

Let me just say I really enjoy reading responses such as Next-Gen-Gamer's and VidGuy's on this site.
I was sort of on-and-off console gaming from 2002 until the release of the DS Lite. I'm certaintly not a non-gamer, but none of the last-gen consoles really did it for me. I was originally going the Wii60 way, but I'm really swaying towards PSWii after the hellish time my friend had with his 360. Maybe I'll leave my console choices to reviewers, now that I know the right people to listen to, but the Wii had wowed me in every way so far. The experience it offers interests me so much more than graphical updates of the Halo and MGS franchises.

Wow, this guy is so totally ignorant that its not even
funny. You guys missed what I think is the best quote of the entire article:
"A recent games show in Tokyo, which heavily featured PS3 consoles, was reportedly packed with excited Japanese
gamers itching to try out the new Sony box."
I think I'll just let the quote speak for itself.

Once I found the content on that site nestled amongst all the advertising. I left.
A quick calculation reveals that the linked website is approximately 10% content and 90% advertising. I rounded it up from 4.48% to account for white space, header and navigation.
Well done Wiifanboy for just directing a bunch of traffic to a clusterf**k pit of advertising with no content of any worth whatsoever.
