I dont know why but after i hear that you have to mount a sesor bar somewhere it doesnt sound to cool they should of went with bluetooth and now im just gunna wait for one get it around easter or summin spend my cash on summin else

@Korey: The controller itself _is_ connected to the console via Bluetooth. The sensor bar is only to detect where the controller is in 3D space. The bar is the size of two pencils, and you don't have to mount it anywhere...you just set it on top of your TV.

A/V cable: I have seen VERY little on this subject. Since the Wii only has one A/V connector, it's pretty safe to assume it is NOT using the N64/GC cables.

So, will the one cable include ALL the connection types, ie Composite, Component and Svideo? Probably not. You will probably have to buy them all separately. :(

And what about audio?! Does the Wii finally get optical, or are we still stuck with Dolby PLII?

Anyone out there know?

Maybe I missed it, but he didn't mention anything about the USB plugs, did he? I'm still hoping that I'll be able to plug my external hard drive into the Wii.

Yup, seem like no USB ports in the final Wii; Panasonic, Nintendo's hardware partner, probably axed that so that people will be forced to use SD cards.

And, how is the opera browser going to do with so little ram?

@Jaille: He mentions the two USB ports at 3:04. Just no mention on what they're used for, but at the very least we're looking at hooking up a USB Ethernet adapter for those who don't have a wireless network available, and I wouldn't be surprised if it also does digital cameras that use standard USB Mass Storage support and don't use SD Cards.

Regarding the A/V cable, I heard somewhere that it will come with a composite video cable but that component video cables will be sold seperately.

Wait a minute, what's everyone saying about cables and junk? I don't know how any of that stuff works...all I know is that a ps2 can connect to our tv, I've seen it done..So, can someone tell me if I will be able to connect Wii easily?

yeah, you'll be able to hook it up to a TV in a snap (seeing as how there's only two ports for Wii-TV connection).

Uhhh, watch the video again. They are there, but most people don't know what they're used for because they probably forgot. The USB ports can be used for game saves by using a USB Flash Drive or an external harddrive (don't blame me, Nintendo said this a looong time ago).

What we don't know is if any other attachments will make use of this USB port. My guess is no. For example. Why would we need to attach a keyboard there if Nintendo will probably just put an on-screen keyboard for the online browser?

The initial idea behing the USB port and SD slot is that people (and I quote) "can choose their own save methods from a variety of choices on the market". This way, we don't need to purchase Nintendo's own memory format because we (probably) already have a USB Flash Drive or SD card in the house already. And we can use that when the 512 MB in the Wii is used up.

nzdsgirl, if your TV has 3 A/V inputs (which are red, white and yellow colors) then you should be able to insert the plugs from the Wii of the same color as with most (all?) other video game systems.

Add SNES to that, too. It used the same A/V cables as N64 and GCN.

Anyway, as for the issue with cables, I'll clear everything up here, and go a little more into Wii.

On the back of the consoles, there are FIVE ports. They are:

1. USB Port
2. USB Port
We don't know much about what these could be used for, except for and ethernet adapter if you don't have a wireless router and want to use your Wii online. Nintendo has not said much recently about USB mass storage (flash, hard drives), so that seems to be out, at least for now. (Actually, they/Perrin Kaplan MAY have said that it IS out, at least for now, if I recall correctly).

3. AC Adapter Port
This is to power Wii...Of course...^^;;

4. Sensor Bar Port
This is the port for the Sensor Bar...Of course...^^;;

5. A/V Multiout Port
This is different from the ones on any other previous Nintendo consoles. This is a single port that outputs both video and audio. The Wii will come with a standard composite A/V cable, just like all of Nintendo's previous systems, except for the NES, but just with a new port plug. These are the yellow/white/red cables that can only output low quality 480i (NTSC/Standard definition) signals.

There will also be available A/V cables with S-Video and A/V cables with component connections. S-Video is much higher quality than the included composite cables, but is still only 480i. S-Video looks different from composite cables, but is still only three cables, video and two audios.

The highest quality cables are the component A/V cables, which includes three cables for video along with the two for audio and is capable of carrying HD signals. Of course, as far as Wii is concerned, they will be limited to 480p signals (progressive scan), but not HD. Still, these produce the best picture and if you have a 480p or higher TV, they are necessary to have an enjoyable experience.

I don't know how the S-Video or component cables will be made available by Nintendo, though, so we have to wait for more information on that.

Also, Wii is only capable of Dolby Pro Logic II sound, just like GameCube, so that is why a digital audio out is not present on Wii.

I hope this helped clear things up for anybody that was confused.

When you push a synchro button, that particular unit will either search for another device or broadcast its presence to other units, like wireless mice do with their docks (not bluetooth). The Wii will search when button pushed, the Wiimote will broadcast when button pushed. Push button one, then two, they will find each other, fall in love then peace will be restored to all of the universe.... I'm so tired...

Ethernet port? I remember clearly reading that it would be able to use ethernet VIA the USB. Not have an ethernet port.

So, since the Wii offers a normal AC-port, does this mean that it comes without a huge-heat-brick(TM) generously offered by Nintendo's competitors?

No built in ethernet jack, but built in WiFi adapter (If you have access to a wireless internet connection, you're good to go with no cables). Or you can use a USB Ethernet Adapter if you prefer wireless, I do believe Nintendo stated this before.

Oh, and where the hell is the eth0 port? Argh! I want one of those :( I'd take a quick and accurate connection over wireless anyday. Oh well, I suppose I need to upgrade my router anyway... and I am moving house. (And it's not like wireless is really bad for speed/accuracy anyway... well, it's enough for a console at any rate.)

oh.....but sadly nintendo under estimated the number of Wii's that would be sold (they estimated 1 million but they found there was demand for 2 million, but don't worry...they'll release many million more in the fourth quarter :D) and unless you have already pre-purchased one....good luck

I have a old console tv that i use a RF Adaptor for my GC...what will i be able to do in order to hook up the Wii to this tv that has no av ports?
