Yes, the U.S. Virtual Console launch line-up is a bit ... anemic. We know, it hurts. However, one has to consider why it doesn't really matter: 1) We'll all be too busy playing Twilight Princess to bother with the Virtual Console immediately, and 2) Nintendo has promised ten new Virtual Console releases per month. That's quite a bit, especially looking at how often Xbox Live Arcade is updated, but the question then becomes: what's on the horizon?Well, thanks to the ESRB, we've got a clue. The ESRB requires that games be rated before release, which obviously means that companies need to send in their product quite a bit in advance. Since they publish their ratings, we've managed to score a list of eight potentials, and quite an eight they are (all rated E for Everyone):
- Duck Hunt
- Hogan's Alley
- Kid Icarus
- Kirby's Adventure
- PilotWings
- Pro Wrestling
- Punch-Out
- Wild Gunman

Yeah, it's much more satisfying to punch a convicted rapist than some "Mr. Dream" guy.

damn. that release is going to ruin me. All they need now is Killer Instinct Gold and Goldeneye 007 and we'll have the best nintendo titles ever.
Well; my favorites.

Yo. So, are VC games going to use the wiimote's motion capabilities, or is it going to be a d-pad and buttons thing like a retro controller?
I don't really get what's so exciting if the later is true... but if the former is true i'm *really* excited... especially about PunchOut. Man.

i'm sure they're going to release a zapper after launch. today when i was playing Wii at my local Gamestop i looked at the side and noticed a notce withe a slide groove along the side of the Wiimote, identical on both side. This only leads me to believe that the Wiimote is meant to snap into something. And i know this isn't for the wheel because the wheel has it's own clasps for the wiimote correct? so the Wiimote must have one if not more things it snaps into. The zapper just being one great possiblity.

Dumpy, these games are going to be played with either the "classic controller" or the Gamecube controller, or the Wii remote turned sideways for NES games. But they will not use motion sensing. The reason this is exciting is that for a lot of gamers this will be the easiest legal way to get many of these games.
eric j, there was a Zapper Wiimote shell shown at E3. http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/10/e3-the-wii-zapper-prototype-revealed/

You guys are behind IGN. They've announced a good number of 64 games being currently reviewed by the ESRB for release on VC in 2007, including Ocarina, Starfox and MarioKart.
Or am I behind, and have this all mixed up?

pocketmnky,
Well.. good luck with that. Those are Rare games and they're Microsoft now. The VC will never see KI or Goldeneye.
And..
As as much as I'd like to see it, Mike Tyson's Punch-Out will never make it either. There's no way Nintendo is going to associate with Tyson's name. Which is unfortunate, cuz it was an awesome game.
I'd like to see some Konami games make the cut. Contra, Castlevania 2...

@13:
Regarding Punch-Out, they could just take a hex-editor to it and remove Tyson's name from it. The original (arcade) never had Tyson anyway. On KI, there is a chance, depending on how friendly MS is and who owns the copyrights (Rare is writing DiddyKong Racing, after all. Not to mention Age of Empires and MechAssualt DS, both MS franchises). Goldeneye would have issues due to the fact that neither owns the copyright on Bond.
However, two things I would like to see:
Sega make a Saturn-style (6button+shoulders+stick) VC pad, and...
NiGHTS Into Dreams! The game isin't too big (the big reason we will never see FF7 on VC, not the fact it was on PS1), but emulating the Saturn may be a pain.

Sad to see Mike Tyson version of Punch Out isn't there. i have happy memories of the neighborhood celebration when i as the first to beat his butt. Was looking forward to seeing if I could remember all the patterns.
Last I heard though the 'mr dream' or whomever the end guy was is basically a new skin but same stuff.

Does anyone know if games like Madden 2007 will be able to be played online against other people?
