... or, in the case of this blogger, lack thereof? With Nintendo boasting the intuitive, easy motion-sensing control scheme allowing all types of people to game with ease, we wondered if the control scheme was realistic enough to favor those who excel in these sports in the real world to do the same on the Wii. Sadly, we're all gamers and not a one of us can protest to be great at golf out in the real world. As such, we decided to document our trials in a couple of games to see if we could get the hang of the game, with the future goal being dominating anyone we come across.
Can we step up and own the links right away? Is the game more realistic and challenging than its presentation would have you believe? Read on and find out!
First game: 3 rounds set to beginner difficulty
- Hole 1: Par 4
- Hole 2: Par 3
- Hole 3: Par 5

Final score: 17 (+5)

Final skill level: 51
Second game: 3 rounds set to intermediate difficulty
- Hole 1: Par 4
- Hole 2: Par 5
- Hole 3: Par 4

Final score: 20 (+8)

Final skill level: 102
Third game: 9 holes
It's right about now where my confidence is fairly high and I feel like I'm getting how the game works. Fluid, swift motions for driving and slow, methodic movements for putting.
- Hole 1: Par 4
- Hole 2: Par 3
- Hole 3: Par 5
- Hole 4: Par 3
- Hole 5: Par 5
- Hole 6: Par 4
- Hole 7: Par 4
- Hole 8: Par 3
- Hole 9: Par 5

Final score: 48 (+10)

Final skill level: 293
So what did I learn? Wii Sports: Golf is the toughest sport in the compilation and spending an hour or so playing won't make it great at it.

I'll be honest here - I'm no a sports "guy" but listening to this and other Wii Sports reviews, I'm happy that it won't just be a 5 second learning curve. Nice to know there will be challenge.

Actually, my friend Mike and I are avid golfers. It'll be nice to see if skill does actually translate. :]

I agree Ryoji. While I'm not great at golf, I own a set of clubs and go play every once in a while, so I get the general mechanics of the game.
I am also curious to see if swinging the wiimote as fast as a real golf club will generate better results than usual or not.

It's nice that Golf is the toughest of the Wii Sports, because it is a very difficult sport in real life. So many variables and so many ways to screw up a single motion.

Ummm....I thought that to make this game accessible to anyone and to keep people from getting tired, even small motions would translate well in Wii sports(and most Wii games for that matter), therefore not really being able to make you better in real life sports. It seems like there are a lot of people who want this title to be more of a simulation which would not make it accessible to everyone. I do hope that some simulation games or even game with a simulation option do come out though. Just think of all the trainers there could be:
Tennis
Badmitton
Polo
Golf
Baseball
etc.

The one time that I got to play Wii Sports: Tennis at the Fusion Tour I rocked it pretty hardcore. Now does that have anything at all to do with the fact that I play tennis IRL? I dunno, but I'd like to think so.

Although I don't expect wii sports to be a sports simulation game, it would be nice to have some...A Top Spin would rock, and I'll love PGA Tour when launched.

Hey Dave, cna you elaborate on the Wii Fitness part of wii sports? I saw a snippet of it in the gamespot video but they didn't show what it really was.

How it is possible to make game at once for fans of different games?! I do not know! It is very difficult also for one probably it to not make.

#11 Mr. Khan:
The question mark spaces are likely different trainers that you can unlock. For example, in the Golf Column, the first one looks like it's putting, which leaves room for driving range, etc.
But you could be right.

My dad hurt his knee very badly some months ago, so when my siblings and I go to his apartment we don't play tennis anymore. This will be a decent substitute til he regains his strength. oh yeah, I told him literally every aspect of the Wii and he seems really excited about it!! Let's hope he waits in a midnight launch like he did for Halo 2. ;)

well im an avid tennis player, one of the best teenage players at my club and im one of the best on the varsity team in my school. when i picked up wii sports and played wii tennis, it was pretty easy for me to get to the pro level (which took less than week to do), so i believe in some cases real world talent does transfer over to ur respective sport in wii sports
