If you're one who enjoys Dancing with the Stars (don't lie, we caught you dancing the moves while watching it) then, during last night's season finale, you saw the first Wii commercial. We've done our usual thing and embedded it into the post, after the break, for your viewing pleasure.
[Thanks to everyone that sent this in!]

Those guys are my heroes now.Seriously, random japanese
guys showing up on your doorstep? It's metaphorical, like the PS3 commercials, only not completely stupid!
Also, the two i's bowing at the end is a nice touch, I think.

That one is good, but here is another one that is, I think, the third one in a four part commerical, http://youtube.com/watch?v=CkS2DJ6VX_g
There is also the whole commerical floating around that is recorded by a video camera (quality basically sucks but shows the whole commerical)... Well I just looked for it and Nintendo made n-philes.com pull the whole ad. Well here is the synopsis, the one that was on last night, then they go to another place and another white family plays it, then the video that I linked, then the last one is a redneck family playing Madden (this part is kind of funny). Then it ends like it does in the first one.
Enjoy people.

Awesomeness. It's up front about the fact that it's a Japanese product, which is respectable.

The two bowing i's are in all Wii commercials, if you watch a bit of Spike TV (Star Trek ftw), then you will notice Wii commercials there, which is odd because Spike is very anti-Nintendo, from what i have seen (they were ads for Red Steel and CoD3)

Love the Blues Brothers bit at the end, very clever all round.
I look forward to seeing what they do over here in Britain.

After watching that, I'm not sure the public will know that is a Nintendo product. Their logo was nowhere to be seen.

It's at the bottom right of the screen at the beginning. However, now people (who don't know what Wii is) are going "What..? That looked fun!" then perhaps ask someone at an electronics store.

#11, one thing Nintendo's said is that they don't intend to brand it as the Nintendo Wii, just the Wii. Maybe that's why...

But, to be honest, the name "Nintendo" can sell a system to any parent. I know, and understand, what Nintendo is doing by taking their name out of the equation. But is asking for a larger "Nintendo" logo to much to ask for?

I like that they dropped the Nintendo logo. Wii is a strong enough product name all it's own, especially since it's 20% of the spoken words in the entire ad. Most parents will figure out it's a nintendo, whether their kids ask for it specifically or not. If nintendo wanted to beat people over the head with videogame-ness, they'd be Sony.
Why would you want a bigger Nintendo logo anyways?

My only question is - why isn't it Shigeru Miyamoto and Satoru Iwata showing up on the doorsteps and saying "Wii would like to play"?
C'mon, who doesn't want to see Shiggy and Iwata joining forces and travelling the countryside, doing battle with forces of boredom and non-gaming everywhere?!
Seriously, I think they could make a whole series out of that. A telemovie at the very least.
Seriously though, it's a good ad. From the layman's perspective, it shows the product and it's functionality, shows it's appeal to different groups, even including the ever so hard to tap into 'bogan' market (sorry, 'rednecks' for everyone outside Australia ;D), then tells you the name. And it's got two funny little Japanese men travelling the countryside to deliver the goods. Sweet.
Wonder if we'll see it here in Australia... Hmmm.
