The rumor floating around this week is that the infrared Wiimote interferes with pacemakers. While nothing has been confirmed or denied by Nintendo, it makes for some interesting conversation.
Some signs were spotted at the Nintendo World event in Japan warning older players but there is still no word if the rumors are real. If the grandparents, great-grandparents or anyone esle in the family with a pacemaker wants to get in on the games, family members beware. You could end up with a real life Trauma Center on your hands. No one wants that!

No.
No frequencies used by Nintendo devices (or any wireless devices issued licences for wireless prectum use for any game system) come close to those associated with wireless signals used to monitor pacemakers.
further, infrared is light, it does not interfere with pacemakers as they are in your body.
cell phones come closer to being dangerous than anything and they are technically miles away from the sensitive spectrums.
please, case closed.

This is the stupidest thing i have ever heard!!!
It seems that Sony might be starting up a few rumors since you know even thought there system launchs tomorrow there isnt gonna be nearly enough for the few people that can afford it!! This little rumor might be sonys way of keeping Wii's on the shelf while they try and put a few more systems together.

*prectum = spectrum
haha what if i typed rectum?
there'd be rumors Wii invades and shuts down your rectum!
haha sorry for the typo.
oh and to those who say infrared is heat energy, that's fine and true, but even a cannon of IR energy to the torso won't change your body's temp a single degree, so hold your arguements. you are self regulating.

Thanks for saying that, .ed, before I had to. :P
And, Ryan, I suggest not blaming it on Sony, as that would be an act of something Sony fans themselves would do. I consider the Nintendo Fanboy of a higher intellect. :)

@ 6, its just because some sellers have different ideas as to what an "acceptable" mark-up is
I myself originally planned to sell a PS3 for only $900 originally, figuring people would be attracted by the lower price, and then, with bidding, it would end up the same as the other ludicrously priced consoles
Maybe they're implementing that idea, draw ppl in with a lower starting bid and run them up to similar levels as the competition
(sadly my parents shut down this idea, as i would've needed a Credit Card for it)

It was a joke poking fun at sony for there rushed PS3 launch and nothing more. Its not your fault for missreading though, kinda hard to get humor and sarcasm across the right way over the internet.
I have to agree wit hyou on the fact that nintendo fans to tend to have a higher intellect though. ;) That was also a joke.
Oh but I heard recently that the Wii sensor bar does have the odd ability to cure some small forms of prostate cancer.

Oooohhhh....I like how you tied in Trauma Center at the end of the article. I wish I would have thought of that instead of stating your grandparent will die... haha.
Thanks for the reference. Live long and prosper brother =)

My mother has a pacemaker, and she's also an RN (soon to be BSN - I'm so proud). So I know from her - if a pacemaker stops working, it's not like the person dies - the heart just doesn't go as fast as it should (about 20 beats per minute). So it's not likely that the Wii would kill anybody even if this were true.
And besides, I imagine that the Wii is FCC class 'B', yes? Meaning that it's not allowed to cause any kind of interference. Meaning that it's already been tested and shown not to cause interference. Meaning this is stupid.

You know, if you're having a dream, and in this dream you're falling from really high, and if you don't wake up before you hit the ground, you can, like, die!
Really. I heard it from a guy who had it happen to him.
