And then the bad news: EB Games sold my nunchuk. The glee of bringing home a spankin' new Wii at midnight is somewhat marred by the fact that there will be no boxing in this house until at least tomorrow morning, because the guy at EB Games broke street date and sold off my preordered nunchuk. He didn't even have the grace to lie like any sane human being and try to play it off like they hadn't received them. Who wants to be he sold it off to himself or another employee?
Lame.
But the lameness is overwhelmed by the presence of Wii, in all its glory. And of course, there's all sorts of box debris. Check out a second photo after the jump.

Here's the Wii, set up next to the happy little stuffed Ein for a size comparison. It's tiiny!

Could you check if any of these system updates that are now available enabled moving saves from the internal memory to an SD card?

Question guys...maybe someone can help me out. My Wii disc slot is not illuminating blue when a disc isn't inserted, nor does it ever blink when I insert a disc. I know it works because when I turn the console on it flashes on, then turns off.
Do I enable that somewhere in the settings and I have yet to find it?

Speaking for Gamestop managers, being one myself, we didn't get hardly any wii accessories, but that doesn't mean they should take them. I know that i'm missing out on an extra controller and nunchuck because i didnt have one reserved. Some of us do follow some of the rules!

Josh...mine's doing the same exact thing. I guess it only lights up for wiiconnect stuff?? If so that's pretty lame. I was hoping it would light up all the time. Also, I wish they had the Opera browser available but no such luck yet. Oh well, I'm still happy to have my Wii :).

At least you have a Wii... I called up WalMart at around 5:30pm yesterday, asked 1) How many they were getting (68) and 2) How many people were in line (30).
I get there at around 6pm, sign in to the 'official unofficial list' -- he says I'm 49 and guaranteed a Wii. The manager comes out about 30 minutes later and tells us that they only received 29... at least they had the decency to tell us sooner than later.
But, she did do one thing correct -- she took the phone numbers of everyone already on the list and said she would call us and hold a Wii for us for 24 hours once she receives them. Sometime tomorrow, hopefully. If no phone call by 9:30am I'm going hunting... but I'm pretty much guaranteed one.. just not tonight. Hope you all had better experiences!

The only time it lights up is when you are dealing with the WiiConnect24, unforunately. That is where you can go to turn on the option. Everything else, it's not lit :-(.
Anyone else have Nintendo Wifi USB issues? I had my firewall on, and though i have it set to accept the connector, it made me turn off the firewall before connecting.

Don't worry Wil. I was shit outta luck, too. Had a busy evening and couldn't make it in line until about 10. Called nearby Target and Best Buys, which were all sold out.
What are the chances of getting one next week? Or was tonight pretty much the only chance until next year?

Alright I have another question. Theres been conflicting information on this, but from what I understood, when playing in GameCube mode, the system doesn't see any Wii controllers, whether there's a Classic Controller attached to it or not. Is that the case after the updates, or does the Classic Controller now work for GC games?

Glad to hear not everyone sucks as much as the guy who sold my nunchuk, Nick (and yes, it was for the EXTRA controller, for multiplayer, because there are three gamers in my house). I was a sad panda, because my favorite part of Wii Sports is the boxing.
And yeah, I couldn't find the cord for my digital camera in all the Wii madness, so I just took the pictures with the camera in my MacBook. Explains the low quality, too.
We should have loads more stuff for everyone tomorrow. To those who got lucky today... CONGRATS! It's a blast. To everyone else... no worries, your time will come. And it's worth the wait.

You say that the Wii sometimes doesn't work with the WiFi USB Connector, but does your DS work with it aswell (if you have one.) That would put my mind at rest if it doesn't. Why does Europe get the Wii last? =(

Joe, that's absolutely absolutely not true. In fact, there's a video somewhere on Joystiq where they are playing Zelda with the Wiimote and switch during gameplay to a GCN controller. The Wiimote and the GCN controller were able to be used AT THE SAME TIME.... as the same controller. That's right, battle for supremecy.

2 complaints,
1. toys r us limited their sales last night; they didn't sell all 5,000 and I didn't get one T_T
2. I'm sorry but the service at nintendo world is just terrible; I was just there, and part of my family is still in line. They have basically 3 cashiers set up for preorder people, then god knows how many on the second floor. They're taking all the preorder people and letting them into the lobby in groups, and groups of 12 of the walk ins are being let in, but you can hardly notice the line moving at all.

My dad and I left our house around 10:30 p.m. to see if we could secure a Wii. We probably went to at least 4 different wal-marts and like 3 meijers. We kind of gave up after not being able to find one at those stores, but then we drove by the Target that we call the "stealth" Target because nobody ever thinks about going there. There were four ladies in line and said there were exactly 24 consoles. Then my dad left at 4:00 the next morning and he's 22 out of 24 in line. I feel kind of bad because its raining right now and its freakin cold...but I'm pretty sure I got my Wii.

#8 Same thing happened to me, Wil. It seems Wal-Mart got their shipments broken into two halves. And then I went to Target, and myself, along with 70 other people camped out all night for the Wii (the store's allotment was 51, though some people were just there for morale support).

#24, That wasn't with a GameCube game, that was with a Virtual Console game, which is entirely different. I have to wait until (Hopefully the sooner date) the 22nd-27th to get my Wii that I ordered online so I can't test it out myself.

Guess what? i got a Wii fairly easily seeing that i pre-ordered it in october when gamestop announced their preorder madness. well today i get my Wii, take it home, set it up, click on my tv and wii and...nothing. my screen is black. i figure it could just me my high def tv not being able to support the wiis composite cables. so i switch it over to my older, standard tv. still i get nothing but a black screen. after much anger and tribulation i take a peek in my male end of my AV connecter and discover that i only have SIX connections inside it, where the the female end has tabs for 8 connections PER SIDE. so sadly i was graced with a terribly defective part on launch. i'm very angry. This renders my Wii unplayable. anyone else had this problem?

@36. Your AV cable isn't the problem. None of us have a cable with all 16 pins connected, just like none of us have GCN cables with all possible 12 pins connected. Different pins are important for different types of cables (ie. composite, s-video, component).
If you flip your male AV port such that the flat end is facing your left, and the curved end your right, you can number the pins starting from 1 on your left to 8 on your right (top row), and then 9 to 16 from left to right on the bottom row. Pins 1 and 9 are audio left and audio right, respectively. Pin 3 is composite video, and pin 11 is ground. Those 4 are the only four I can count inside my AV cable, and all works fine. For those who care, pins 4/5/6 are component Y, Pb, and Pr, and pin 14 is another ground. Somewhere in the remaining 8 would be s-video Y and C, probably Japanese/European RGB, and a few more grounds. Composite and component cables are the only ones people have scored thus far, however, so only those pins are known.
If your Wii isn't working, it's not the cable. Either something else is broken with your Woo, or something bad in your hook-up.

thanks for the reply. I kinda posted this in a haste of my inital thought on why my Wii wasn't displaying video or audio. as i became more rational my brother noted that the Wii remote were also not connecting to the console. NOA service and support agreed with this when i phoned them this afternoon and are shipping me a new console on monday, 4-5 business days though :/
Thanks a lot for the reply too, it allows me to confirm that it is indeed a hardware problem and not my formentioned AV cable problem. I couldn't get anyone on the mynintendo forums to confirm what you stated so clearly. thank you!

I went to two WalMarts on Saturday night only to be told that there were more people in line than wiis that they were allotted. I decided to get up and go to a Target at 5 in the morning to get one. Went to the Target, knowing they were getting 42, to see 20 people or so in line. I was so psyched that I was going to get one. Walked to the back of the line only to be told there was a list. I figured, ok, no sweat. Went to the guy with the list and asked to be added. I was given the most ignorant #$^% answer. "We're full!" I turned around and counted heads again. I explained that there weren't 42 people in line. Was then told that there were people in their cars and that went home to come back later. Basically, he was a douche and thought he was all powerful with his little book.
I figured I would try KMart down the street. I was fourth in line out of FOUR available Wii. I got mine an hour earlier than the douche at Target and got a copy of TP, so in the end, the Wii launch was AWESOME!!!!!!!

My son slept overnight in a line @ Target. You receive everything you need (except batteries) for the controller. We had no problems connecting the the internet, but was sorry to see the news and forecast channel along with the internet channel was not ready yet. Overall... We are very happy with the system. One thing I had noticed that wii sports... has something cool in the game called FITNESS AGE ( LIKE A BRAIN AGE).
