Well, Nintendo sort of promised us Virtual Console updates on Mondays, and no, they technically didn't lie. Late last night, Nintendo added a single new game, Super Star Soldier (of TurboGrafx-16 fame), available for 600 points. For those of you who aren't familiar with the title (you know ... everyone), Super Star Soldier is a vertically scrolling arcade shooter, resplendent with eight whole stages and seven whole bosses. There are even two-minute and five-minute time attack modes! Golly!Cynicism aside, those old 2-D shooters are fan favorites, and may add a lovely bit of retro to your gaming life. Anyone excited? Or just pissed that Nintendo is on its merry way to breaking its ten-game-a-month promise?

Super Star Soldier was one of my favorite TG16 games from way back in the day, so I'm excited to see it on VC. As for Nintendo breaking their 10 game a month promise, I'm not too upset about that. The Wii is a new platform and it's going to have some faults in the beginning while the big N iron out all the quirks. I mean, come on, the forecast, news and internet channels don't even work yet! So, I'm happy to give them the benefit of the doubt as far as VC is concerned. If they support it, even with only one new title a week, it'll still be better than XBLM which sometimes substitutes a game release with a card pack for UNO or just nothing at all. Besides I'm too busy playing Zelda, Rayman and Wii Sports to worry about when they're going to toss Dungeon Explorer and Gunstar Heroes our way. :)

Forget "retro." Super Star Soldier is a great game. If you haven't played it and you have a Wii (and $6,) you should play it.

Well, I might believe you on this "Being screwed by Nintendo" thing, but I seem to recall the titles that will be released for Virtual console outlined till the the end of the year. After which they will begin the 10 a month.

They also released Ecco the Dolphin and Golden Axe, not just Super Star Soldier.

Why would anyone be pissed off that Nintendo is breaking its ten game a month promise? The system launched on Nov. 19 and there are more than ten games available. Now, if ten more games aren't added in December, then I think you can start arguing about broken promises.
