In what is not so much a preview but a treatise, Eurogamer gives Wii Play a few run-throughs and looks at the overall notion of including the collection of mini-games with Wiimotes in non-North American markets (you lucky buggers). After all, Wii Play is the game that will be called Wii Sports II by many, and as with Wii Sports, it's not so much a game as a teaching tool to help people learn the Wiimote. But after they look at the nine minigames -- Billiards, Laser Hockey, and Shooting Gallery aside -- the wrap-up seems to beg the question of whether or not this game is necessary, even included with a spare Wiimote at a bargain price. Wii Play, reports Eurogamer, is very basic -- and we already have a basic tutorial with the system. It's Wii Sports, a game that has depth that has surprised many. We'll have to wait for the full reviews to see if Wii Play will demonstrate similar depth, but from this preview, we're inclined to doubt it. For those who have the Wii Play-and-controller bundle at launch, it may be a worthy purchase ... but for those of us in North America, who won't see Wii Play until January, it may not do as well, bundle or not.Eurogamer takes an early look at Wii Play

I'm actually really looking forward to Wii Play *because* of its simplicity.
I live in a house in a college town with 4 other roommates, and we throw parties (or at least have several people over) usually once a week. Everytime people come over, they become instantly obsessed with Wii Sports, and don't even touch the other 3 Wii games that I own.
For most non-gamers, even Rayman Raving Rabbids requires a bit too much explanation for it to be a "pick up and play" game at parties. But Wii Sports is just perfect. So if Wii Play is just more of the same, I'm all for it.

I feel the love, derfreddy.
Jax, I'm digging Wii Sports for the same reasons and it's probably actually seen more playtime than the other launch games we bought (well... it's close, at least). But if I didn't need a third controller, I dunno if I'd buy this as just a game.
Depends on the hockey.
I loves me some air hockey.

What the hecks with the personal slam on Alisha? I don't know you, Alisha, but I don't see why anyone would have a problem with you. (Although I don't think this is the proper place to air grievances... hope I didn't just feed the troll!)
As far as Wii Play, I told my g/f to hold off on a third wiimote since this one has one bundled. Even if it does suck, getting a game and wiimote for $50 is a no brainer - I bet it's worth $10.
But Ninty really should have threw another wiimote+nunchuck in anyway with the system. Maybe make it a clean $300 (or justify the $250 it sold at).
And I haven't given nearly as much time too Wii Sports as Zelda. I don't even touch anything else lately.
Long comment!

i might buy this game just for the duck hunt part
that is if you can buy it without it being bundled with the controller
and if it doesn't cost that much money

I'll get it just because everyone I know enjoys Wii sports and how it imports the Mii's.

I think it will be great. My parents actually were able to play wii sports and had fun. So more games that I can play with my family or my less gamerly inclined friends will be great. I like having miis of all my fammily and friends who play and getting to make these charicatures and thenn play with them is a blast. I also need more controllers so this is a no brainer for me.

I actually have this - Bought it *because* it was packaged with a remote. I figured if I was going to buy another remote anyway, might as well get one with a cheap game with it.
And really, that`s what it is. A really simple tutorial. Move the cursor around the screen! Click the button! Shoot things! Learn to tilt the controller! Etc.
Played through it once with my husband (First thing we played, as in Japan it`s called "First Wii"), popped it back into it`s case, and it hasn`t seen the light of day since.
I don`t consider it a waste, as it was a "Buy a remote and get this game for $5!" level cheap, but it certainly is not something I would buy normally. Really, this is what should have been included for free with the Wii.

Seriously, if anyone here is excited about Wii Play... don't be.
I got it on launch yesterday (in Aus), me and a friend worked through it in under an hour, including icecream break. None of the modes have any replay value whatsoever. It serves as an interesting introdution to the Wii and nothing more. It's a shame, honestly... the Dunk Hunt mode is fun but incredibly brief, Billiards has no depth or play options, Tanks is great fun for about 10 mins, nothing else is worth playing at all.
Stick with Wii Sports.
