According to German gaming site GameFront, Square-Enix will have Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles on-hand at Jump Festa, a gaming/anime/manga event held in Japan, taking place on the 16th and 17th of this month. The only information missing is just what version, or versions, of the game will be at the show. Will we see the new DS game or that installment that is Wii-bound? We'll update you as soon as we receive confirmation.

You do know that all the ... old FF makers left the company right? How else can you explain the latest Mana game on DS?

First off, FF: Crystal Chronicles was never designed by the main FF team. It's created by "The Game Designer's Studio" which is a Square spin-off studio aimed at making games for Nintendo systems. Crystal Chronicles is considerably different than mainline FF, which is a good thing. In general, it's less of an RPG and more of an adventure game like Zelda -- except it has amazing multi-player capabilities and very beautiful graphics.
The original Crystal Chronicles can only be appreciated, however, if you played in multi-player mode with atleast 3 people for most of the game -- something that required 3 GBAs and 3 GC/GBA link cables in addition to the 3 people. Having experienced that, however, I absolutely love the game -- one of my favorite GC titles -- and have been looking forward to the DS and Wii versions since they were announced. It would be phenomonal if either version ends up supporting Internet multi-play.
Concerning Final Fantasy in general, things aren't as bleak as most people commonly think. While Sakaguchi certainly created FF and his departure at the turn of the century was unfortunate, most forget that the last game he directed was Final Fantasy V. All of the later games were simply produced by him, which him having little creative influence on the game. Likewise, while Uematsu is gone, most forget that FF X music has little to do with him directly; it's been awhile since we've seen a 100% Uematsu scored/arranged game. Finally, while Nojima left the company in 2003, he still does senario work for Square on a contract basis. As the writer/scenarist, his work tends to be the most influential on the game so it's great that he's still around. Despite being out of the company, he still was the scenarist for Kingdom Hearts II and is confirmed as the scenarist for all three versions of the Fabula Nova Crystallis project (ie. FF XIII).
As for the DS Mana game (Children of Mana), it wasn't even made by Square. It was a licensed game contracted out to Nex Entertainment. Blame them. I imagine Square learned their lesson and won't be using that studio again for any future work.
