completely fake! The TV must have already been broken. wiimote would break before it penetrated the exoskeleton of the tv.

I am not a physics major, or a mechanical engineering expert.

I think this is something mythbusters should look into.

The weight of a remote + the speed that it was going greater than the tensile strength of the plastic designed to retain a large CRT tube? Doesn't seem likely to me. Could it crack it even? dunno, seems far fetched.

FAKE! Come on, whoever took this picture...seriously how stupid to do you think everyone is to believe that the wii remote would break your tv side like that, AND if if actually did, to be wedged in there like that?

FAKE - do you know how hard and durable that plastic is surrounding the picture tube? No blunt object is going to penetrate it unless it is fairly sharp. Maybe a metal rod could make the whole, but definitely not a wiimote.....

I'll bet you my nintendo wii that this is a fake!

Totally real. I don't know WHY I bought that Papier-mache television. I knew I'd regret it.

I think this one may actually be real for several reasons...

First, the person who took the photos admits that the wii remote was placed back into the hole the next day so they could get pictures of the damage. That would explain why it is stuck in so perfectly after impact.

Second, it is not inconcievable for a wii remote to be thrown with enough force to break the tv bezel plastic. Contrary to popular belief, the plastic bezel on the front of a tv does not hold the whole thing together. The plastic is merely there to give a nice appearance, and square up the rounded space around the tube. If the plastic is brittle (which could happen from age, temperature, composition, etc.) it is trivial for any object to puncture it.

Finally, if you follow the link, they have several pictures of the damage from different angles. On the last picture in the series, there is obviously some white plastic transfer at the edge of the puncture. This is a detail that I seriously doubt any person trying to fake an accident would remeber to add, and adds a lot of authenticity to the story.

So, yeah, I believe it. As someone in the linked website mentioned -- when you have a million people all playing the same game at the same time, a few freak accidents like this are bound to happen.

AFter you bowl you press A t oskip the scoring screen. Did this player do that with the batteries out or was there a second player who skipped the screen to get ready to bowl after something so amazing happened? Come on...

omg, unless you have the intent of making a hole in your tv, you cant do that, especcially in bowling. the speed your moving your arm isnt even enough to make the remote move 2 feet from your hand even if you drop it. you would have to throw the thing like a baseball to do this sorta damage

force = mass x acceleration

I'm too lazy to look up specifics but I know from personal experience how light the remote is...so that leaves acceleration to produce the force. how fast is this thing moving?

Ive seen a video of a wiimote flying really fast and hitting a wall, the wall was damaged and it wasnt. I think its real.

I think the Wiimote could quite easily smash a hole in the TV's housing if thrown hard enough. I dont think however, that it endeded up sticking out of it like that. Like the guy says, it was place in the hole a day later.

My daughter lost control of a Wiimote last night playing bowling. She's four. Of course it went flying behind her instead of forwards and we had a discussion about wrist straps need to be on.

But it didn't put a hole in anything, just landed on the chair she was standing in front of. no TVs were harmed.

It has to be fake. Nobody has that kind of power. And all the people had to do was take a hammer at the spot and place the Wiiremote in the hole. I mean come on, there is just no way that that could ever happen, even with a shotgun arm........ maybe with a rocket arm, but that is just un-human!

I dont know..... i think its fake. i dont think a wiimote could do that considering that the remote is blunt, it could never go through a tv. ive have a wii and ive given good thumps in the head but i dont believe it could go through.

I think it's a fake! The all things being equalt the plasic of the tv and the remote would have to have about the same tinsil strength, while I beleive you may be able to throw the remote and crack the bezel of the tv, I doubt you could create a punture wound like that without a lot of doctoring. Unless of course he has the limited edition teflon coated, armor piercing wii remote, and invited Roger Clemens over to play a couple frames. But I doubt it.
