The holidays are a time for giving and generosity. While people shouldn't need an excuse to help those in need, drives like this get the best results from the holiday spirit.
Super Mario Legacy is collecting donations to help sick kids get game consoles to occupy the long amounts of time they will spend in the hospital. Each child will receive:
- One Wii unit
- A copy of Twilight Princess (nothing helps better than slashing baddies)
- 2000 Wii Points
If they get more money than expected, the site will also provide the children a DS Lite and a copy of Yoshi's Island DS. You can donate today through PayPal and the amounts aren't fixed so you are welcome to donate whatever amount you want.
Even if you can't donate, help spread the word to get more people involved. The more money they raise, the more kids they can make smile! Happy Holidays!
[Thanks lwelyk!]

Nothing makes good charity like a New Nintendo Product (especially to ailing/disadvantaged children)
Back in 2004 a friend and i tried to convince my Jr. Honor Society to buy a Nintendo DS for some poor kid in the Dominican Republic, instead of cash like we would send him...
Needless to say my request was denied

Did anyone else originally read this as,"...to help hospitalize chidren"? I thought Nintendo Wii Fanboy had lost it for a moment there!

This is a pretty good program, but what about the one kid whose arm is in a cast and/or amputated. "Mommy, how come I can't get a Wii?"

But isn't Twilight Princess rated "T"? Many parents won't want their kids playing that. Although I think it would be ok, many parents might deny the offer because of the rating. Their better off sending the Wii with Excitruck, Rayman, or Monkey Ball.

Umm... shouldn't Nintendo be donating the Wii Points? They are free (to Nintendo) after all...

Child's Play is already a very successful program just like this one. I doubt your motives if you're just a me too. They're even giving the kids a T rated game. What the hell is wrong here? If it were my money I'd donate to a program that already has the public's attention and seems to have things way more organized. It's really safe to say however much money these guys are able to get for charity, Child's Play will probably make more, and nobody's going to be writing stories about 2nd and 3rd place, so you obviously don't care about the good PR for gamers. And the thing at the bottom "This isn't just for visits..." Hey, you're the ones that said it, not me, can't be for visits, nooo...

Looks like a poor imitation of child's play. I can think of more worthy recipients for pity dollars. This just feels like a copy cat move, and a navel gazing one at that. You can buy an adult a full education for the price of a Wii in many 3rd world country. The child will get out of hospital, the adult will be helped for life.
