Wii isn't just disappearing from store shelves -- it's also dominating search engines. It's probably all those people who didn't get there until after the shelves were already empty looking for a deal on eBay, but whatever the reason, the Nintendo Wii takes the top spot as far as searches for electronics go. Web analytics firm Hitwise compiled the list of most-searched-for electronics and discovered that the Wii and the iPod, in its various forms, are busily pwning just about everything else tucked cozily within the tubes of the 'net. Here's the full list:
- Nintendo Wii
- iPod
- Wii
- iPods
- iPod Nano
- iPod Shuffle
- PSP
- PlayStation 3
- Xbox 360
- Xbox (?)

stephen, that's not a typo. The search term "Nintendo Wii" and the term "Wii" are not the same thing, just as "Apple" and "Apple iPhone" are not the same thing.

Michael,
You're right that Apple and Apple iPhone are not the same. However, iPhone and Apple iPhone are. Just as Wii and Nintendo Wii are. The people typing that search are looking for the same thing.

It's not a typo. "Wii" is one search and "Nintendo Wii" is a different search. Just like people don't know whether it's Blu-ray, bluray, or Blue Ray.

@ Stephen
Most likely because its a search engine, and some people enter the criteria "Wii" while others enter the criteria "Nintendo Wii"
But yes, demand is high
