Nintendo is biting the bullet and replacing 3.2 million Wiimote straps with thicker, stronger straps, in an effort to put a stop to TV damage and gamer injuries alike. The original straps, which were 0.6 millimeter (0.024 inch) diameter, are being upgraded to a thicker 1 millimeter (0.04 inch) strap.
In order to acquire your new strap, you'll want to fill out Nintendo's replacement form and send it off right away, which will result in a new, beefier strap arriving in your mail box. Personally, we felt the original straps were more than adequate, however in light of all the reported injuries and damage to property, we're not surprised by Nintendo's recall.

In that case, I'll have to send off my spare Wiimote then.
When I bought my Wii and copy of Wiiplay, my Wii came with the stronger wrist strap but Wii Play's Wiimote can with a weaker wristband.

Why would you have to send off anything? Just fill out the form and Nintendo will send you up to 4 new straps.

I would urge ALL Nintendo fans to seriously consider NOT sending off for a replacement strap unless they need it or feel it will be necessary. This will hurt their bottom-line earnings at a time when each penny is imperative in the war with Sony and Microsoft!!!

I doubt I'll be breaking my original wrist straps anytime soon, but since the replacements are free, I decided to get a couple of newer straps just in case. You never know what can happen.

So they're only replacing the straps? good, i thought they would have to replace the entire remote
This does not bother me anyway, since i do not use the strap, at all

I think what's telling about this is that there are 3.2 million Wiimote's out there in the inventory channel. it looks like nintendo is really getting close on getting the 4 million wii's out by the end of the year.

Daniel, I'm looking forward to the day when, just ONE time, you drop your remote and break something. I've never dropped mine, but I still wear the strap. I also wear a seatbelt when I drive though I've never crashed. Cuz shit happens.

I'm in for 2. Maybe some of the straps out there are better than others, but my girlfriend's younger sister already managed to snap one of my straps and whip the remote straight into a wall. She's not some crazy tennis player or anything either... just got into the game and swung a little too hard, while accidentally letting the remote slip (and the strap broke). The things are made to catch in case of an accident (which of course, happen, which is why Nintendo constantly reminds everyone to use the wrist strap), so I'm glad Nintendo decided to beef the straps up a little bit to help prevent the inevitable accident from breaking more things/people.

Actually, the strap is more of an airbag than a seatbelt.
Your hand is the seatbelt.

Hmm, looks like my European launchday Wii came with a thin strap. Wonder if NoE offers something similar.
And for those curious: I can check the serial(It's fairly low, just like my N64 bought at the same store was) and tell you what range we might be looking at for Euro Wiis.

In the UK you need to email to claim your strap. This site has the address to avoid a costly 0870 call!

Any one retarded enough to brake their strap deserves to have their tv's and windows smashed. Don't let go of the fucking remote dumb ass's. It's not the strap that giving out, it's the fucking retarded people who are letting go of the remotes. When you play hockey,do you let go of the stick when you swing? No. Don't do it when you play the Wii you Wiitarded people. You people out there that do shit as stupid as this do not deserve to play any type of consoles. If you have broken your strap then take your Wii back to the store and never look in the general direction of another one ever again. You are retard and should be put to sleep. Nintendo shouldn't have to waist there time because you people are fucking stupid. Use you damn brains, their not there just to weigh your head down. I have had my Wii since launch day and I have had my hands get sweaty but I have never even came close to having the Wiimote slip from my hands. That just proves that you letting go of the remotes or are swinging your arms to wildly. Settle down morons it's only a game, your not fighting for you life, so you don't need to flail your arms around like an epileptic.

I hate to sound elitist, but a lot of folks on [not just these] boards need a refresher course in English...proper grammatical use, spelling, homonyms, proper use of punctuation (apostrophes, in particular) and general decency in posting. Posting on boards like this allow a degree of anonymity that people take to mean that they can behave like baboons. The willful and wholesale slaughter of the English language is heartbreaking.
Just some examples of what I am talking about:
"Any one retarded enough to brake their strap"
That's "Anyone" and "BREAK" their strap. To brake is a verb that refers to stopping motion.
"Don't let go of the fucking remote dumb ass's. "
That should be "DUMB-ASSES". The apostrophe indicates the possessive, which is inappropriate to this sentence. Also, if your remote is engaging in sexual intercourse, it is indeed defective and should be exchanged for one less randy...unless, of course, you are into deviant technology.
"You are retard and should be put to sleep."
The sentence should be restructured to say "You are A retard", or "You are retarded", or "You are obviously a mentally challenged individual and we should take pity on you and terminate your existence like a dying puppy." I am glad that the spokesman in this case does not work in the mental health industry.
"Nintendo shouldn't have to waist there time"
A waist is that thing between your abdomen and your hips. Nintendo should not have to WASTE their time. Also, "there" indicates location..."Where did you put the Wiimote, honey?" "THERE!" "Their" is the possessive form of "They". On a positive note, the correct usage of the contraction "shouldn't" should be commended.
" because you people are fucking stupid."
Sounds like an accusation of indecent intercourse with the aforementioned "retard", or perhaps the aforementioned randy wiimote.
" Use you damn brains, their not there"
Since the brains apparently belong to the person being lambasted in this torrent of vitriol, the use of "your" instead of "you" would be warranted here. In addition, the author seems to mean the contraction of "they are", not the possessive of "they". Replace "their" with "they're"...or perhaps it would be best if the author skipped the use of contractions altogether.
"That just proves that you letting go of the remotes"
The insertion of the word "are" between "you" and "letting go" is the proper use of the conjugated verb "to be" in this instance. Unless you change the gerund "letting" into the verb "let", in which case "are" is not necessary.
"or are swinging your arms to wildly."
I don't know where "wildly" is, or how to get there, but the use of the word "to" indicates direction of motion. Perhaps the writer meant to say "too", indicating an excess of motion leading to the damage to personal property inflicted by the aforementioned "retard".
"your not fighting for you life"
"Your" is a possessive, indicating that it is something that has a relation to you. I believe the author meant to use the contraction for "you are" instead, in which case "you're" is more appropriate in this instance. Also, "you life" has no meaning, as "life" is a noun, not a verb. "YOUR life" would make more sense here.
And no, I am not an English teacher, I am just an educated man with a responsible job who is tired of seeing the mass mangling of what is already a difficult enough language. Perhaps the citizens of this great land of ours need some ESL of their own!

Has anyone else received a replacement strap that doesn't look like the ones in the photos? Mine is ugly with a curved plastic part instead of the cool rectangle missing a corner. Of course, there is also no "Nintendo" impression stamped into it either. :-(
