We've run across a couple of bloggers taking on Wii Sports workout regimens and we must say that it does sound appealing. It's funny -- preWii, people were complaining about the potentially tiring effect of playing for hours, and now other people are looking to maximize that very effect. We must say that a few rounds of boxing or tennis are pretty nice after a long day at the computer. What's your take on it? I love it. Wii Boxing has become part of my daily routine. I felt some strain in my shoulders at work, the day after a moderately long Wii Boxing session, and realized that it actually DID give me a workout.
They say that shadow boxing is a great exercise for your upper body. I suppose this is just an easy way to get into it. :)

Without a doubt. I got the Wii specifically because I was often confused with moss growing on the couch. I make sure I play every day just so I keep active. And it helps.
Physical activity (or the lack of it) feeds on itself. Inertia rules. A butt at rest on the couch tends to stay at rest on the couch.
All I know is I have lost weight since I started doing daily Wii workouts. The physical "age" rating it gives went from 58 to 29. I feel more active and better overall. Friends have made positive comments.
Its a fun and rewarding way to break a sweat.

I think that it CAN but it would have to come with intense play for a couple of hours. I mean there was a kid who lost like 50 pounds playing DDR. So it could work for the Wii for sure.

See the workouts are effective, but you are getting a short workout. You need your heart rate to be higher for a sustained period of time to really burn calories. Its not like people are running a full mile. So now you will have semi-over weight kids instead of well, extremely over weight kids. Well, better than nothing.

Actually workouts that involve high intensity intervals are proven to induce greater weight loss than long endurance workouts, so you don't need to "run a mile" to lose weight.

I am 70 pounds overweight. I ride a bike 16 miles a day. I intend to supplement that with a Wii workout...if I can ever FIND an effing Wii!!!!!!!!!

My roommate and I play Wii Sports every few days. Especially with boxing, he gets REALLY winded. Like... heavy breathing kind of winded.
The same game barely even affects my breathing rate at all.
He's a guy who's really really lazy (won't even walk a block unless he has to)... but he likes Wii Sports. So I guess it is something everybody likes to do for some reason.

I'm not that bad in shape that Wii Sports will improve my condition...haha...but I do enjoy the fitness mode everyday before I head to the gym. It's just fun in my eyes :)

if you are already fit or a little over advorage this will not help you as it is so lo impact unless you do it for 3-5hours a day but i guess it grate for them fattys
