It's yet another Monday and you know what that means: more Virtual Console games! This week we're granted access, through the power of Wii Points purchase with
real life monies, to a NES title and two TurboGrafx-16 games. Personally, we can't imagine halting our play time with the latest NES game to even give the other two TG-16 games the time of day:
- Gradius - NES (500 Wii Points)
- Soldier Blade - TG-16 (600 Wii Points)
- Dungeon Explorer - TG-16 (600 Wii Points)
Gradius is
easily one of our favorite NES games of all time and, quite arguably, the best side-scrolling, 2D shooter in existence. What say you, fine readers? Are you enjoying any of these VC titles released today? Could care less about each of them?

I'm still waiting for my first VC purchase. Gradius has got me teetering though!
If only they would release Parasol Stars on the TG-16, I think that would push me over the edge into a purchasing frenzy.

Gradius is only second to R-Type.

And make sure to give some TG16 games a try. It's the least you could do for the crimes of either being too young to have bought them when they came out or (worse) passing on the TG16 originally.

PROTIP: Dungeon Explorer apparently isn't showing up in the "New" list, but if you browse all TG16 games, it's there.
Also, for some Gradius fun, watch this video of 15 plays of the first level superimposed! http://thenewgamer.com/content/archives/averaging_gradius

Awesome. I'll be adding the Gradius to my Zelda purchase and my wife's Super Mario Bros and Sonic the Hedgehog.
@ 20XX: I'll check out some TG16 games especially for you as well.

umm there is no way r-ytpe is better than gradius! not on this planet anyway. Im a hardcore 2d zone inducing shooter fan and while I love Rtype, its not even close.

when will some new IP be released for the VC? that's what i want to know. classics are great and all, but this type of service still feels like it's not meeting its potential.

Dude...you guys are forgetting every other side-scrolling shooter. Gradius is good, but gradius 3 and r-type III are the friggin best...then again...it's only an opinion. :(

More TG-16 and NES games? I want some Super Nintendo and N64 up in this VC. There are hardly any games on either of those two consoles.
Seriously...these TG-16 games (except Bomberman) are really lame and not worth my time.

Gradius is good stuff. The last one I played was when I bought Gradius Advance way back in the early GBA days. It'll be refreshing to play it on a normal sized screen :)

Think I'm passing this week, I'm pretty picky at the prices VC games are going up at. Right now I have BomberMan '93 and Super Castlevania. We'll see more of the games we're waiting for in a few months, Nintendo isn't going to release anything now because it's still riding critical mass from launch. The only reason we had such a awesome Christmas release is to give Wii owners a taste of what the VC can give us and get our mouthes watering, there going to string us a long with one or two really popular games a month, mostly throwing Sega and Hudson classics and sleepers at us along with the NES throwaways like the sports series to keep us and third party VC publishers happy. A few months from now when the early adopter has worn out the launch titles and new major releases have dried up and we're waiting those long months to fall, that's when they will hit us with the more awaited titles, and thus Regie's promise of no dry spell of games for the Wii, and I can't wait to get my hands on Mario RPG and Zelda: Link to the Past

Gradius Might be worth it, but come on Nintendo, where are the SNES and N64 games? I really want Super Mario All-Stars (which will never see the light of day, knowing Nintendo. They will release all of them seperately, then never release Japan's Mario 2) and a bunch of N64 games.
Beetle Adventure Racing, pleeeeeeeeease???

Soldier Blade is a much better shooter than Gradius on NES. Gradius II is pretty awesome on PC Engine CD but SoldierBlade is a fantastic game all around.
