Japanese mag Nintendo Dream (truly, if only such wondrous publications were here in America as well) has related a tantalizing morsel. According to a ghetto Google translation (check after the break), a successor to a famed and well-known Nintendo franchise is coming to a Wii near you. What could it be? Donkey Kong? Kid Icarus? Such teasing articles are better left unpublished; we lose sleep over this stuff, you know. Cold sweats in the middle of the night kind of stuff. There will be no posts between 3 and 4 today, due to therapy sessions.
Nintendo Dream: "Successor of famous series is soon revealed" 18.01.07 - Japanese Nintendo Dream it announces in its newest expenditure that soon the successor of a famous series is revealed. With details the magazine holds back itself.

The intertubes seem to be glowing today with rumours of an upcoming Nintendo announcement about a revisited IP for the Wii.
I think a timely reworking of Wave Race would suit the wii-mote down to the ground. Catch the swell of the waves just right to make the perfect turn, before dunking the ski underwater for that shortcut to the final straight.
The Gamecube Wave Race: Blue Storm wasn't nearly as sucessful or innovative as the N64 original. So the time is ripe to set the record straight.
What better game to prove the Wii as a capable graphics machine than the game that Shigeru Miyamoto once stated as one of the "most advanced N64 games ever released".

Wave Race!!!!! Oh man, I never even thought of that. I loved both the N64 and Gamecube versions. Those that never played them really missed out. The water effects were amazing and still are even to this day. The graphics were beautiful, the control was perfect and it was just simpy a blast to play over and over. My bro and I used to start a race and just goof off the whole time driving around and doing stunts and running into each other.

Please Joystiq, stop getting my hopes up with the Mother 3 picture. I'm still coming to terms with the fact that it probably won't ever be seen here in English.
Anyway... my money is on Starfox. The franchise has been pretty quiet as of late, and a Wii-Based Starfox would be pretty sweet.
Either that, or they'll go for the obscure like Ballon Fight, Ice Climbers, or Mach Rider.

Wave Race would be a sweet new addition. But it's been done to recently to be revived as an old famous sequel even though a third is possible.
I was leaning more towards Earthbound. Because it's an old game that tons of people loved. And it's probably one of the most world renown games for the SNES. And honestly, who wouldn't love a new Earthbound?

Wait, what are they saying about Mother3 (or Earthbound)? Obviously it's not the uber-announcement, but I hadn't heard anything about more Earthbound goodness. Ness would fit perfectly into the cooky-ness of my wii.

Don't be surprised if its Kid Icarus. The NES title (while meant as a rip-off of Metroid without the exploration) actually had some charm to it, and both it and the GB port sold pretty well. He's also a pretty iconic Nintendo character that you could do a lot with, thematically. His inclusion as a primary fighter in Smash Brothers Brawl also points heavily towards a Kid Icky revival (apparently there was much cheering when he appeared on the first live trailers).
And a lot could be done with him, especailly with the Wiimote. Twilight Princess's archery is the base example, at any rate. And it worked well enough despite being just a tiny part of the game's combat. The Kid Icarus mythos is brief, and has both some general established themes as well as plenty of room for elaboration and reinvention. Even if it continued its legacy as a Metroid clone, I can't imagine living in a world with too many games like Metroid Prime.

Kid Icarus. I rove Kid Icarus!!! The sleepless nights I had back in the day with the first on! If Nintendo can pull it off (and we all they can), then Kid Icarus could have great potential. The bow, the flying, the eggplant wizards!

Count me in as one of the people hoping for a new Kid Icarus.
Barring that, I'd LOVE to see a new 2D/2.5D Donkey Kong Country game, too.

The Wii has Animal Crossing written all over it, and nintendo needs a major triple A title for the CASUAL crowd.
My sister was all over that game, i could never get her interested in anything else. That just has to be it.What could be better to launch with the up-coming online service for the crowd that loved Wii sports?

It's possibly the sequel to NiGHTS for Sega Saturn. I was questioned about being in a focus group for it last month. It is coming for Wii so yeah.

I think all of you are thinking too recent. Wave Race, F Zero, Starfox, Kid Icarus, Donkey Kong Country have all had multiple games and most of them have had sequels fairly recently.
I'm thinking...wait for it...wait...for...it

my dream for the wii is to see some of the classic 2d side scrolling game play, with updated graphics (maybe something like what the new super paper mario platformer is doing) - then make this playable with the classic controller, or NES-style with the wii remote. would love to see this happen with the donkey kong country franchise.

Kid Icarus, as soon as i saw the heading that's what i thought, Ninty released the GBA Port, stuck him in SSB and the word 'succesor' suggests its something that's been in recluse for a long time, Donkey Kong 64 was brilliant, but i'm hoping for (and thinking) Kid Icarus.

As much as i do not have any desire to buy a wii at this moment, if they release EARTHBOUND for the Wii, i might just get one; or force my friend to buy it so i can play it at his house.
Earthbound is my favorite game from nintendo, better than Zelda, Mario, Donkey Kong, Wario Ware, and everything else.

I think the best game from the old Nintendo era to bring back would be the absolutely fun NES game.... STAR TROPICS .... Star Tropics was a fantastic game and a classic for all to remember... however... as i doubt this is the game thats gonna be released.. my bet is on the new "Pilot Wings"

If it's on Wii...Maybe it's not a brand new Wii game. Maybe it's a Virtual Console game.
If it is, it's definitely not Mother3...unless it's the N64 version.
