Arguably the greatest adventure to ever bear the name Zelda in its title, The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past is sure to please many when they check today's available VC downloads. Coming in at the sum of 800 Wii Points, players will again be able to help Link save the Dark and Light worlds from the sinister Ganon. With many dungeons and items to be found, Link to the Past is easily one of the greatest SNES titles in existence.
How many of you plan on giving this a download?
[Thanks Gerwurztraminer!]

Absolutely the best Zelda game ever made, and one of my top games of all time. Unfortunately, it is this very game that keeps my SNES hooked to my TV/projector, and a game for which I can already play through my SNES as well as through my Gamecube's Gameboy Player and the GBA port of the game in Four Swords Adventure.
Should I buy it again just to show my support? To show Nintendo gratitude for finally releasing something on the VC that is worth it? Perhaps. I suppose it does offer 480p, which my SNES does not. Although, if I could get me some Gamecube component cables on the cheap, my Gameboy Player does do 480p. Hmm....

Not I. While I'm certainly glad to see a popular title from yesteryear in this post this week (vs. lousy sports titles from 1986 or another flippin' space shooter), I was really looking forward to downloading titles that I missed when they were new or titles that I haven't played on a budget retro cart/disc on every Nintendo system between then and now (A Link to the Past is already on GBA). C'mon, Nintendo, let's see some of the underrated, underplayed cult hits or, here's an idea, _anything_ from the N64 era!

Score! I was hoping for Super Mario World - which has to be coming soon - but this is even better! I wasn't into Zelda when this one came out, so I'll definitely be scooping this one up this afternoon.
I've got to finish TP too, but working on two Zeldas at once is a feast I can't pass up.

A fantastic addition that has long needed to be added, but since I beat it recently and I've got so many other games to play, I won't be downloading it.

This is a no brainer for me. I will definitely be downloading it since I have no played it since I finished back when it first came out on the SNES.
I wonder what are the other VC titles today??

I'm thinking about it. It's definitely my favorite Zelda ever. I like to think of it as what the developers wanted the original Zelda to be like, but they didn't have the technology for that.
My problem is that I picked up the GBA version for my DS this Christmas, and I've been playing it off and on, and I literally completed it last week, so I'm in no mood to finish it again.
So I'll probably hold off on it for now and pick it up later when I'm bored.

Wow! I downloaded this zelda, and very satisfied! Is this the only vc today? Where is Kid Icarus, Pilotwings, Excite Bike, Ghosts n' Goblins? All gems of the earth. Does anyone know if a reliable website lists future downloads?

Officially, I'm annoyed that this is the only release for today. I was really hoping for a little N64 action, somewhere in the realm of Banjo-Kazooie or (dare I suggest) Paper Mario. I guess we'll probably never get Rogue Squadron though, eh?
On the other hand, I love me some Zelda. Also, it doesn't have voices. That's worth the 8 bux in itself.

Banjo-Kazooie was a Rare title, now owned by Microsoft and thereby unlikely to be coming to the VC.

Fantastic! I just downloaded it. Link has no voice and the boomerang doesn't cut down bushes. Everything is as it should be.

I have a question, and please someone awnser it...
I have downloaded a few VC games, these I put on my SD card... WHen I deleted the game from the main memory, it was not playable, but still on the SD card... now when I copied it back to the main memory, the game worked again...
What im actually trying to say is: isn't it possible to sownload a game, and then set it to youre SD card, SD card in youre pc, and then via PC to another SD card, and via that card to another wii??
If this would work it would be great, since I MUST HAVE this game, and I live in the Netherlands (EU)...
Hope something good is coming in EU soon too...
Ciao, Glenn

Have it for GBA
I'm holding out for all the great titles that haven't been ported to GBA, GC, or DS (namely Super Metroid and EarthBound)

There is some sort of DRM (most likely tied to your Wii Console Number, considering how they have your account on file without a username or password) keeping you from copying to anything to another Wii
Doesn't mean you can't copy it to PC, but all that could be good for is analyzing the emulation code used in VC titles, which would allow you to adapt virtually any PC program (including ROMs and ISOs) for use on the Wii
And what good what that do.... :)

Too many great games, so little time! I think that the VC is a nice, short-term solution for the triple-A "drought" that people talk about happening from time to time from Nintendo.

I downloaded this and started it up, turned on my wavebird and was faced with a screen that stated I "need a Classic Controller to play the game press A to go back to the main menu" WTF! The description in Wii Shop Channel said it could be played with a Gamecube controller (which works for other VC games but not this one) What's the deal?

Andrew, Nintendo's official USB to ethernet adapter should be coming soon. Instead of waiting, though, do a little research and you can find the brand of converter that works with the Wii.
Once you find the brand, go to newegg.com and order. You can be hooked up in less than 4 days for about $20.
If you can't order online, stick tight. You aren't missing TOO much on the VC, at least quite yet.

There's always the Logitech wireless PS2 controller + PS2 to GCN controller adapter combo. It can be pricey ($40 or so for controller, $5-10 for the adapter) but if you've already got the gear, it's a nice option for virtual console games because it gives you:
1. wireless control
2. less convoluted control schemes for older games
Still, the Wavebird would be better for N64 games I'm sure.

Why can't they just release a mess of games all at once.
This one at a time thing is going to drive us crazy...

I can't wait to see how Cruisin' USA runs on the Wii. That game had a terrible framerate, so I'm hoping it'll benefit from the fancy new hardware. Great game!
