My goodness yes. After an absolute absence of any N64 games since the launch title Super Mario 64, a recent press release from Nintendo has confirmed that next week will see the arrival of one of the greatest N64 games ever released: Mario Kart 64.
Mario Kart DS has improved upon the series in many ways, but there's no denying that four-player split-screen charm. Don't you dare not pick this up, people. We're watching you.
Closely.

I'm not picking this game up on VC. I've got a perfectly good 64 that can play this just fine. Add the online and then I'll bite. But kudos to those of you who pick it up and get a chance to play it for the first time.

Seriously, you can't complain at all on this one. This will be the second week in a row Nintendo doesn't have crap games. Once they see that stuff like this is successful, anything remotely good will end up on the VC. Also, this is the only game on the VC so far that I don't already own somehow and I would like enough to play.

The Wii is my first Nintendo console (have a first gen Game Boy around here somewhere). I must say that up until now I've never been a Mario fan, but since I started playing Super Mario 64 on VC, I can't get enough. Bought Mario Kart Double Dash last night and I'll surely download Mario Kart 64 when it's posted.
The VC is my second favorite feature of the Wii, right after the remote. Nintendo is really onto something here.

Um...I went back to this game for a little bit and I finally realized, it handles like crap. This game was good back in the day, but I anticipate that it will not age well once it is back in the hands of fans.

I don't want anyone to foam at the mouth over this question but if one ones mario kart for the gamecube, what would be the benefit of picking up mariokart64. Having said that I did get mario64 and like it more than any mario on the gamecube, so I do understand the possibility that newer does not always equate to better...

Why Nintnedo. Don't you see why XBL Arcade is a success? UPDATES. When I already have Mario Kart DD and DS, why would I want to play the 64 version? All you need is online.
Pleas Nintendo, hurry up and make your Wi-Fi Connection a reality. When you have developers willing to release updates for their games to include online, and gamers wanting online, and a system that supports online, the only thing stopping you is yourself. PLEASE ADD ONLINE SUPPORT SOON!!!

Glad to see this coming out for those that haven't played it, but this'll be a hard sell for me. Still have an N64 with 4 controllers. Now, the original Smash Bros on the other hand, that might be worth $10

This game is amazing! Im buying this as soon as it comes out on Monday!
@12 This game does not handle like crap. Mario Kart 64 is the best one out ( except for Mario Kart DS but playing on a handheld is nothing like playing on a big screen. Also all the exploits in the online wasnt fun.)
@14 Mario Kart 64 is better than DD.
@19 Original Smash was an amazing game but SSBM took that and times it by a million. I WILL still by SSB just for nastalgia, but SSBM is far supirior a game :)
IMHO ;)

I'm torn about this one because I think $10 for a digital download game is a little excessive. So if I don't buy it I'm sending a message that the price is too high, but if I do buy it then I'm encouraging Nintendo to put up decent titles on the VC.
I don't know. I guess I'll probably buy this one since there's only a few N64 titles I want anyway those being Mario Kart, Star Fox, and N64's Tetris game (the best one except it would crash). At a reasonable price I'd definitely experiment more with the N64 titles, but at $10 I'm going to stick with the titles I know I like.

Ive always loved all mario sport games. Like mario tennis, mario golf, and above all mario kart. Im 30 years old and walk around in my mario kart 'I brake for mushrooms' shirt. Before this monday, the past two mondays were dissapointments in terms of vc. But that is great mario kart is coming. What about kid icarus, goonies, and pilot wings? Those were all very good as well.

@27, You can definitely mix and match. If you turn on 2 Wii remotes, they'll be players 1 and 2. Then plug 2 GC controllers into ports 3 and 4 and they'll be players 3 and 4. No config required.
The funny thing is, that if you plug the GC controllers into ports 1 and 2, they will also be players 1 and 2. So you'll have one guy on a GC controller and one guy on a Wii remote, both fighting over the same player on the screen and not knowing why. Meanwhile players 3 and 4 will just be sitting there. That might actually be fun to have 2 players controlling one character, with one driving and one using items, Double Dash style.
But of course, the Wii remote won't have enough buttons for an N64 game, so you'll need to attach a Classic Controller to each one you're using.
