Gamespot recently conducted a rather extensive Q & A session with resident Mortal Kombat dude Ed Boon, confirming that rumors of an online game mode for Mortal Kombat: Armageddon on the Wii were nothing but that: rumors. Boon discusses just when development on the Wii installment in the franchise began, as well as some of the tweaks the game was subjected to in transitioning over to Nintendo's motion-sensitive system. Ed goes on to discuss specifics in the motion-sensitive system, saying he "felt there would be no point in doing this game for the Wii if we did not support the Wii-mote for all modes and features. We didn't want to just support it, though--we wanted to utilize it and customize the gameplay experience. When you play it, you will notice that every single super move in the game is controlled by a Wii gesture system; also, the fatality systems will use the gesture system. For example, to do a move like throw Scorpion's spear, you will swing the Wii-mote away from your enemy and then bring it back toward your enemy, as if you are throwing the spear yourself toward the enemy, in an "away-toward" motion." Sounds good to us, bring on the Kombat!

I, for one, am getting really sick of the Wii's lack of online functionality.
I wasn't planning on getting this game in the first place, but it's really worrying when I keep hearing that Nintendo is making it difficult for developers to create online content for the system.

Compounded problems: so, no online play, meaning to play with 2 people you have to be sitting/standing right next to your opponent. And to do "every single super move in the game", you need to wave your hands around to do a gesture. Which means the guy standing next to you will see you wind up your arm to "throw a spear" or whatever, which means he has plenty of time to mash the block button (or hold his hands up in front of himself, or whatever). Ick.

EB: Yes! To make sure we stayed true to our fans and people who like the other controllers, we are also supporting the Wii's Classic Controller as well as the GameCube controller for use in MK: Armageddon for the Wii. You could be playing Mortal Kombat with one person using a Wii-mote and Nunchuk, one person with just the Wii-mote, one person on the GameCube controller, and one person on a Classic Controller. We wanted the player to have as many options as possible.
Nothing to worry about...

I'm not a fan of the franchise, but for the chance to play a fighting game in the style Mr. Boon explained intrigues me.
This is why the Wii sells games, I guess. :)

After playing DBZ:BT2 on the Wii, I prefer the motion controls.
About having time to react because you see your opponent "winding" up for a special move - RIDICULOUS!
If you have time to look away from the screen, I don't think you have to worry about your opponent anyway, that said, it's a stupid comment no matter what. There's no winding up, all you need is a simple wrist flick back and forth.
