So, like we predicted, many third-party publishers are rather anxious about jumping into the Wii scene. Many feel as though Nintendo's own games compete directly with their own. To an extent, they're correct: trying to compete against games like Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros Brawl is almost impossible, no matter how good a game is. But looking at the relative dearth of titles recently, it seems as though there's quite a bit of time to release a decent title. On the flip side, this is a conducive environment for smaller studios, such as Crossbeam Studios and NIBRIS. But can these games match the quality of the big boys? Only

1) The Wii is cheaper to develop for than the competition.
2) The Wii looks to have a very large consumer base in a short time.
3) Wii owners will look for many new games between Nintendo's releases.
I don't see a problem. Yes, Nintendo owns up 3rd parties with its 1st party releases, but that doesn't mean there isn't room for both. Actually, the Wii NEEDS strong 3rd party support or it will still be regulated to third place.
Now, 3rd parties are probably less likely to take RISKS on a Nintendo system than Nintendo would be... after all, they often can't sell a game on name alone like Nintendo sometimes does.
But honestly, you can't tell me that a Resident Evil 5 in the vain of RE4 with Wii remote controls wouldn't sell like crazy (as per the Capcom pic).

Bought Gunstar Heroes (Sega), and Rayman Rabbids (Ubisoft). My next purchase is Trauma Center(Atlus). Rented Red Steel (Ubisoft).
The problem is that devs are lazy, and just want to do a quick cash-in game.
With Capcom, one of my favoritests devs, they can't simply release Megaman XXXIV, since we expect Wii controls, however, they could reuse the legends theme in a FPS-kinda way that Megaman fans hated :P
Megaman is at an issue right now, they can't make it for PS3, since no megaman game justifies its 60 dll price tag, or the 600 dll machine behind it. 360 is an option, and so was Wii, well, skipping over the controller issue...

Nintendo = Quality. Third-parties are often a roll of the dice. But all they have to do is make a great game and the people will buy it. Back in the days of the NES and SNES bad games were bought just as often as good games because unless you subscribed to a gaming magazine there was no way to know before you buy. But now with the Internet, bad game will fail even before it is released. If they want my money they better make it worth every penny.

OK, forget about Wii games for now. At least release VC games that are worth buying. I mean Final Fantasy 6 for $8, who'd say no to that?

I only wish Nintendo made more games using new franchises, Project H.A.M.M.E.R is all well and good (In fact im looking forward to it!) but with the resources Nintendo have id love to see them start pumping out games on a more frequent basis.

#3 - Not entirely true. Good games also fail. Like Psyconauts, Prince Of Persia: Sands Of Time, Beyond Good And Evil... to name a few. Also look at the fact that Despite Resident Evil 4's quality, it wasn't even in the top 20 gamecube games. It was beaten out by Mario Party 8...

I can see the point of developers not wanting to compete directly with Nintendo. The funny thing is that most of these same developers made a name for themselves on the NES and wouldn't be what they are today if not for Nintendo initially. It's business, so that doesn't mean that they owe Nintendo any gratitude but if they want to remain leaders in the industry then it makes more sense for them to support Nintendo now rather than let other up and coming game developers get their foot in the door like some of them did 20 years ago.

Nintendo needs to keep their promise back when the Wii was called "Revolution" and open up their online store to small shop 3rd party developers. I'd love to see small flash based games work on the Wii and sold online for $5 (and under). Give 1st party CD based games and small "indie" games for download and I'm a happy-happy camper.

Duscrom, those games didn't do well on OTHER platforms either. They didn't fail because everyone bought Zelda or Metroid.
Marketing is key. Make a great marketable game...it'll sell.

Ninty got its rep on first party games by not releasing crappy games. If more developers took that approach, they could easily gain a similar reputation and compete with Nintendo's first party offerings. I buy Nintendo games because I know that they will be quality games. I wait to read reviews and/or rent 3rd party titles before making purchasing decisions. Better games create brand loyalty. This is a very simple concept.

No way they'll release Final Fantasy games on the VC for a while. All 6 Famicom and Supaa Famicom FF's are revamped on the GBA and DS right now. But Nintendo/Square's Super Mario RPG should be coming "soon."
And after what the Hudsonsoft guy said, I'll bet money that when the Wii goes online Nintendo will announce a new channel for online play for a couple of the VC games. That way they get to go "Yay online gaming!" and "See, we told you the VC games wouldn't be online, because technically this is a different Wii channel."

what Ninty has to do, is invite these third parties with open arms. simple as that. besides as soon as developers see how much "sucess" they have on the ps3 with their "large" install base, they'll switch over the cheap to develop for Wii.
