Yesterday's news of a DDR game headed Wii-ward got us in the mood to speculate about what other established franchises would work well with the Wiimote. We don't mean ports that "make use" of the Wii controls, though that can be fun, too. We're talking about games that would be really, really perfect. Additionally, the news that DDR will require a dance mat as well as both the Wiimote and nunchuk opens up a world of peripheral possibilities. So what inventive ways can you think of to implement beloved franchises on our beloved console?Wii Warm Up: On franchises

#1 has a good point with the "megaman (2d with wiimote aiming)", a good example of that type of mechanic is the old PC game Abuse. That would make for a good port.
Pikmin would also work great.

ZELDA!
I have real visions for zelda. Particularly with the Bow and boomerang.
Bow: Aim by pointing the remote (just like TP), but then ready the bow by holding down the Z-button on the nunchuck and pulling back on the nunchuck just like you were cocking a real bow. Release your arrow by releasing the Z-button. I particularly like this one.
Boomerang: Pull the nunchuck back while holding Z and then aim at your multiple targets with the remote. Then swing the nunchuck like you were actually throwing a boomerang watch the boomerang fly.
I also think that there are ways to implement alot of the other weapons, but I won't bore.

Parappa the Rapper - w00t!
Not really a franchise, but it seems Capcom's Okami would be more appropriate for the Wii (and even more for the DS) than it is for the PS2.

To me, nearly any game in the PC that used both keyboard and mouse to operate would be ideal for the Wii. Games like the above mentioned Abuse, classic RTS like C&C, Starcraft or Warcraft, even arcade games like Wik and the Fable of Souls or Mutant Storm. I wouldn't even mind playing a solitaire or two.
Now from the innovation of the remote, imagine a Sumo game, accuracy feats like operation... the possibilities are endless

I was just thinking about 2D Megaman with Wiimote aiming earlier! I would absolutely love something like that. They could seriously breath new life into the franchise if they did it right. Think of how much robot carnage there could be with quick multi-directional aiming? A similarly styled Contra from Konami would rock my fucking socks off.

-Im not sure...but I am hoping they have motion controls on SSBB.

-i have ideas on how id approach it, but thats for another time, another place.

What would be cool would be something like a Guitar add-on (or a new controller) for guitar play and to also use the Wii-Mote/Nunchuck combo for drumming in unison.
You could mimic all band instruments for a full-on battle of the bands -- Guitar Hero style.
(Yes, this kind of sim might sound weird but I thought Cooking Mama sounded silly until I played it)

I want a Jedi game! The Wii Remote would be great for using the Force and a Lightsaber. Also, an NCAA Baseball game would be cool.

Ditto.
"Not really a franchise, but it seems Capcom's Okami would be more appropriate for the Wii (and even more for the DS) than it is for the PS2."
Seriously. Why on Earth this hasn't been announced yet by Capcom is really beyond me. It's the one Wii port that people would actually be excited about.
I also want motion controls on SSBB. I mean, you basically have you jump, kick and punch and block buttons. A or B punches or kicks, Z blocks and flicking the controller in an upward motion jumps.
It's not really a franchise, but the recent Ghostbusters videos that popped up have made me realize just how awesome a Ghostbusters game would be. Elebits is cool, but it just ain't cuttin' it as a substitute for Ghostbusters.
I also want to see games like Ikaruga and other old-skool shoot-em-ups use the Wiimote. I would think you could really make it interesting like that.
And finally...
Mario Paint Wii.

I think Resident Evil is prime for it. Based in the RE4 engine you would raise your gun and aim with the remote ideal accurate and faster than the stick was. On top of that you could raise the knife and make slashing movements. Finally while aiming you could flick the chuck for a quick dodge left right or back. Thats just the fighting.
The puzzles could play more like Hotel Dusk and be more interesting than hey you found both halves of that thing now take them here and its a key.
I also agree that any RTS could find a good home. For that matter if I were a PC dev I would be porting all the Railroad tycoons and sim cities over. On the note of Hotel Dusk a continuation of that or Pheonix Wright could work for some relaxed gameing.

Uck... DDR with Wiimotes. I'm so sick of DDR now.
I say uck because the whole EyeToy scam of "seeing you look like an idiot while you play!" and adding the mode where you have to hit the button things while playing.
Guitar Hero (or, in this case, Band Hero) would be god-like.
