Joystiq's resident 'man in a far-off land' recently checked out Japanese manufacturer Thanko for the skinny on rechargeable battery pack availability. He found that the company is taking pre-orders for their product starting today, promising delivery of said product before the end of February.
Each pack, which includes a lithium-ion battery and the USB stand (pictured), allows one to plug it into one of the available USB plugs on the back of the Wii. Not only that, but the company says that a three-and-a-half hour charge will keep players in the game for up to 25 hours.
Anyone plan on importing this?

Cycling out two pair of regular old 2500mah NiMH rechargeables are working just fine for me.

I've just been using rechargable batteries. Its really been great not having to pitch the batteries every few weeks. This seems like a much more elegant solution though.

I'm going the rechargeable route too. By the time this might be available in the US, I'd think about it. If nothing else, it'll keep me from breaking the battery cover latch.

There is already a Wii Charge Station (Nyko, $29.99) that was just released in the U.S., which is very similar to that.

Good God, no. Three and a half hours? I bought a 15-minute recharger because of the Wii and am loving not having to buy the smaller varieties of battery anymore for anything (remote controls, Discman, etc.). Until the rechargeable ones bust, of course...wonder how long that'll take.

well, i dont like how this only charges one remote, most people have sprung for at least one more controller and nunchuck, meaning you would have to buy two of these.
also, what about the wrist strap, is there a place for it to go while its charging or do you have to take the strap off every time you want to charge your remote?
thirdly, if this thing only lasts a couple hours, then its not worth it, not only does nyko already have a charge station (which charges two remotes at a time mind you) as was previously stated, but you dont have to worry about having to import the damn thing. at the very least get some rechargeables and be done with it.
my 2 cents

I'm not sure where you got that it last only a few hours. Up to 25 hours sounds like alot more than a few to me. As far as the Nyko solution though, I think I would rather get that myself.

I thought the Wii's USB slots don't deliver power when the machine is on standby? They don't charge my nano, for instance. If so, how is this practical?

what are you guys talking about? how is this not better than regular rechargeable batteries?
1) you don't have to keep taking the batteries out all the time which keeps you from breaking the latch.
2) your not going to play your Wii for 25 hours straight (or most wouldn't) so when your done with it, put it on the charger and you have 25 more hours next time you pick it up.
3) its USB powered so it wont take up a precious wall socket like the other rechargeable stations.
4) you gotta admit it looks great sitting next to that Wii. its like they were made for each other.
i don't know about you guys but i am so over cycling out batteries since everything else i own now seems to be able to be recharged by plugging it in.
it seems the only downside to this thing is that it only holds one control so it appears you would have to buy two. but the other one that Nyko just released solves that problem (don't think its USB powered though). i really don't understand how everyone doesn't think this is a great idea when it's far superior to normal rechargeables.
