Nintendo sent word to us today declaring the availability of the Wii Play, the next collection of mini-games from Nintendo that comes bundled with a Wiimote. Wii Play, as you may already know, includes games such as fishing, billiards and the shooting range, which is the Duck Hunt clone that has the player using the Wiimote as if it were a gun.
"Wii Play builds on the types of games and experiences people have come to love in Wii Sports," says George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. He goes on to further praise the Wii and its innovative style by saying "we are changing how people play games, who plays and how many play." We couldn't agree more ...

Any chance they'll release Wii Play without the extra Wiimote?
I've already got two Wiimotes at home and don't need another.

I called my local Target and they had 2 copies. I run over there (literally 5 minutes) and both copies sold out. Luckily there was a Toys R' Us next to it that had two copies left that were not already reserved. I picked it up :)

Maybe when I need a third controller I'll grab this instead. But, that won't be for several months.

Picked mine up yesterday. Got hella lucky too: about 15 minutes before I went in a guy bought 2 copies of Wii Play and sold one of the games back (this was at GameStop). Turns out he just wanted another controller, but since they didn't have any, this was the best way to go about it. So I walk in, ask for Wii Play, and my buddy working there tells me they have a never before played used copy, for just $20 (instead of the retail $50). Woot ^_^

Frickin' signed, man.
I already have two controllers, and maybe I'll get this when I need another one for Wii Sports: Tennis or something, but since most of my friends have Wiis of their own they just bring their controllers with them when they want to play.
I wouldn't mind having my own set of controllers, but that's at least another $80 that I ain't need to spend right now.

I don't know why everybody is so hyped about this. We played it at christmas and there are a few laughs, but in a whole, it is just a cheap remote and some minute wasters. 'Air' Hockey is a chore. And without [easy] save transfers, taking the game to a friend and having to unlock all the games again takes a bit of my soul.
But it if you want need another controller.

I got mine yesterday and all I can say is... Don't buy this game. It looks like a good deal as it is only slightly more expensive than the remote on its own, but the game is so abysmally bad that it's not even worth the price difference. Actually, you'd have to pay me to insert that game into my Wii again. Bad, bad, bad, not to the level of a bad Flash game.
Get a standalone Wiimote instead of that crap. I suppose the reasoning over at Nintendo to include the Wiimote with it was that it would never have sold without it...

#19 - You are correct, the games on this are very weak and FRUSTRATING. Definitely not the ease and FUN of WiiSports and not worth the extra $10.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. I'm having a blast with this game. The only game I don't horribly enjoy is the cow riding one...and even that one IS enjoyable. I got mine for just $20, but I would totally have paid $50 for this gem.

So I've been playing the game for a while today...and like many of the comments, not so good...BUT...if you need another Wiimote, just get it. It's worth $10, but that's really it. Tanks is the best game on there IMO, and they really could build a game of its own around that. I'll continue playing Zelda and Wii Sports as I was before. I just won the Super Bowl in Madden, so I think I'm mostly done with that game.

Weird... probably this is only US news, because I got my Wii-play when I bough my wii, like 1 week before new year or something... (I live in EU)
And also:
The game is not as good as wii-sports, NO, but I think it is definatly worth the 10€ Extra, it has some real fun games like Duck hunting, riding the cow (as I call it... dont know the real name :P) and some weird tank-shoot game, for which you will need the nunchuck (also reaaallly fun :P)
Buy it if you need a second wii-mote anyway, it's totally worth it :)

I got the last one off the shelf on Tuesday...The game was disapointing but are moderatly fun to play. Scince I only had two remotes I was eventually going to buy another remote anyways. If you are complaining about the gamesplay then keep in mind that you can probably sell it back to gamestop or somethign like that and possibly get the 10 dollar difference back and keep the remote. If not give it a second chance it may just grow on you, I know tanks did for me!

Thanks for the posts guys. I was wanting this but since we've already scored 4 (yes, 4 count 'em) remotes, I now know I needn't blow the $50 on it. When one of you guys sells it back I'll go buy the used copy. ;)

#1. Every EB Games around me (OC, CA) was sold out. I went to the Target next door and they had at least 20 (including every DS Lite and some PS3s).
#2. Not nearly as fun as Wii Sports, Rayman, or Warioware. It would be worth a purchase if it was $20 without the extra Wiimote.
