Looks like Perrin may have jumped the gun a bit when she said that the company would not be manufacturing any more GameCubes and we should all just consider the thing to be dead. At least, that's according to Nintendo UK spokesperson who recently told Europgamer "I can confirm that globally, Nintendo is still continuing production of GameCube hardware and GameCube software." He said, she said ... it makes our head spin.

Give the GC a proper burial and be done with it. The Wii does everything the GC does plus tons more. Any new GC games should just be repackaged as Wii games.

Lets remind ourselves of a certain incident with Perrin promising not region locked games for Wii...
I think I'll go with this guy from Nintendo UK instead, although you're right vidGuy, the Wii can play any games you would wish to play on Gamecube, not much point in it existing anymore really.

Um, is it possible that both are right? Kaplin said that the company was not producing Gamecubes, but Nintendo UK said that "Nintendo is still continuing production of GameCube hardware and GameCube software." The UK did not say "Gamecubes", it said "Gamecube Hardware". It's highly possible that Nintendo has stopped making Gamecubes, but is continuing the production of "Gamecube Hardware" like Wavebirds and memory cards because those would still be in demand for Wii owners. Same could be said for Gamecube software. Nintendo may be manufacturing copies of existing games, but not in the production of new Gamecube titles. That may still quality as "continuing the production of".
Of course this is the same Kaplin that looks drunk in her interviews with Matt Cassamassaaaseenapeeameea and stated that component cables would be available at launch.

1. vidGuy:
I disagree with your statement that "Any new GC games should just be repackaged as Wii games" I believe that any game that doesn't need the wiimote, wifi, or the extra disc space should be made for the Gamecube. The graphical edge provided by the Wii is very small, so by making games like those for the GCN you immediately give the game a larger potential audience.
I wonder, is it possible for a game to be made for the GCN but have extra Wii content? As we saw with Zelda, Nintendo chose a completely different build of the game.
