Of course, with the big release of SSX: Blur hitting this week, many of you are undoubtedly busting the "mad phat trix" plentifully all over many a snowy mountain. Even knowing this, we're forced to ask that question we ask you every Friday: what are you playing? Will you be picking up the new title or are you planning on playing some of the Virtual Console games you might have downloaded this weekend? Or are you still chipping away at a different game?
Personally, we plan on picking up Sonic and the Secret Rings this weekend. We have yet to grab the game as we've been busy blogging lately and look forward to dashing around with the blue hedgehog.

Sonic is fantastic once you start to get all the powerup and skill points. The levels are just so vast and pretty you'll just want to stare at them for hours, well maybe minutes, but its well worth your time and money.

I'm still battling my way through Twilight Princess, which I bought on launch day. College, work, and life in general makes it hard to advance through games as epic as Zelda at a quick pace.
I'm also one level away from beating Elebits, so I'll work on that this weekend too.

I'm am hopelessly addicted to SSX Blur. Once you get the controls down, the game really opens up and becomes something incredible. I plan on mastering the half-pipe this weekend.

I'm too afraid to get SSX Blur or Sonic and nobody around here rents Wii games. There's an 80% I'll cave and buy SSX Blur.
I love the Wii controls, but they're always a common complaint in negative reviews. So I'm always skeptical about putting 50$ for a game when the reviews are mixed.

I got SSX Blur, and will be playing that hopefully this weekend. The controls are taking me a bit to get used to, but ive only played it for about an hr or so. Hopefully Sonic will be coming to me soon with Gamefly.
I also have Elebits from Gamefly right now and its pretty fun. I hate those damn black elebits that attack.. but im only on level like 12 so I cant make a full review of the game yet.

I'm currently slogging my way through the ridiculous 50 mini-games in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz. I'm currently at about 45 and have almost lost the will to live.
Don't get me wrong, it's a pretty good game, but 50 mini-games is just far too much. It's totally exhausting and makes the overall package feel really diluted.

I'm just wishing I had time to play anything dangit. What little time I do have (a couple hours a week) are going into Zelda still, and this week, SSX... have monkey ball and rayman too, but they've been pushed aside at least til I finish TP.

Naruhodou, do NOT be afraid of the controls in SSX Blur and do not judge the game by the first few hours you play it. The controls are amazing, but they take a while to get used to. It's just like learning to snowboard in real life, it's a pain in the ass at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's amazing.
These stupid reviewers, they have everyone convinced the controls suck. They must just suck at the game or didn't give themselves a chance to get good at them.
I LOVE the controls. They're amazing, but it took me 5 to 6 hours of playing before I got even half way good at them, and even now I'm still learning them. And yes, the ubertricks work just fine.

There's a bunch of games I've been hooked on lately, some on Wii, some not (but all on Nintendo systems). In no order:
- Trauma Center (Wii)
- Sonic (Wii)
- Red Steel (Wii)
- Super Princess Peach (DS)
- Metroid: Zero Mission (GC+GBPlayer)
- Original Metroid on Zero Mission

I rented SSX the day before yesterday, and have only managed to put in about an hour and a half total... so far? I'm pretty bad. Ok, really bad. While I have a feeling the controls will be pretty fluid once I get the hang of it (and am glad to hear from other posts above that that will probably be the case), I'm having a hard time doing anything but flailing my arms around like a moron.
Does anyone else find the carving and ubertrick levels in the training area extremely difficult? Let's hope this is just another learning curve like the steering in Excite Truck... A little bit awkward at first, but now that I've got it down it's way too much fun and I wouldn't want to play it any other way!

I agree on the SSX controls. People tend to flail their arms when they don't know what they are doing. They don't bother to RTFM (though the manual on this one is weak, use the tutorials). You basically just flick the wiimote the direction you want to spin when you get air and press A or B to stop spinning. And for the ubertricks you just hold A and draw the shape. You can pause at any time and practice drawing the shapes so you get the hang of them. It took me one night to get the hang of it before I was pulling off the highest scores I've ever gotten in any SSX. Ironically enough in the other versions I tend to button mash for tricks anyways. I had other friends try it to, and they also had it down before the night was over. It's like the difference between playing Red Steel (when it works) and any other FPS. But anyways, there is no reason for arm flailing. It don't understand why people do it instead of starting with smaller movements and working their way up.

Downloaded Chew Man Fu on a whim and ended up loving it. Kinda a different take on the Bomberman ideal.
And I hear there's over 500 levels. Could take me a few years.

I'm mostly playing SSX Blur, which is a fantastic game. The biggest issue with it is that the manual is absolute crap. The tutorials in the game help a bit, but not for doing Uber Tricks.
For anyone who is having trouble with the Uber Tricks, simply go into the menu while in career mode. Scroll down until Uber Tricks is highlighted. At this point you can actually practice just drawing the patterns. It will light the symbol green if you did it correctly or red if you do it wrong.
I couldn't for the life of me pull off an Uber Trick in the game. I spent 15 minutes on this screen and now I can pull off all of the first four Uber Tricks easily.

I am still playing Twilight Princess...just got the Master Sword. Such an awesome game!
I am going to try and get back into Trauma Center and Metroid Prime 2 (replaying in anticipation of MP3). Not sure if those 2 will make the cut, though.
the DS is easier to get time with...since I don't need the only TV in the house to play...so I will be playing Hotel Dusk: Room 215...which is another great DS game.

ChromaTick - Nice tip about the ubertrick menu. I'll definitely check that out.
I'm still disappointed in the training area though. It doesn't seem very... thorough. I must be missing something because I just can't hit the second marker in the carving level. The latter half I can manage just fine, it's just the top part that I can't seem to navigate. Bummer.

I've been mostly playing SSX Blur. Having never owned an SSX game before, this game is double amazing. I love the music and the way it really enhances the game. Also, it didn't take me that long to get the controls... just think of the nunchuck as your board and the stick as the dude on top of the board. Also for the ubertricks, it doesn't depend on where you're pointing, just all motion based so make sure you move the whole controller.

I rented Sonic for the week. I'm pretty dissapointed with it, but I'll give it a few more hourse of play before a final verdict.
At some point this week I plan on buying SSX Blur. I love the SSX series, and this really seems like a game I'd like to get heavily invested in.

For the carving tutorial, you don't have to hit exactly on the markers, just get close to them.
Also, remember when carving that you can use the thumbstick to make a tighter carve, instead of just tilting the nunchuk left/right for wider turns.
And you don't have to go super fast either, which is what I'm learning you have to do on the slaloms. Man those things are tough for me.

Slalom is tough as hell. I have gotten gold on it for the first 2 peaks thus far, but it took many tries. You basically have to get a rhythm down where you are turning for the next gate before you pass the one you are at. Without that rhythm, youll miss a ton of gates.
Im loving the game. I can pull off the ubertricks at will (except the Z shaped one) and unlocked one new one. Ive got a ton to unlock. This game will have my attention for a while.
SSX controls have always taken time to master. Reviewers that don't take the time to play the games they review can lick a donkey taint.
