So remember that raving lunatic who badmouthed the Wii in a GDC free-for-all bash-fest a few days ago? Well, "When I'm on stage, I'm me -- I'm not representing EA or Maxis. I do not think the Wii is a piece of shit."
Know this, Hecker. We do not forgive you. In fact, we feel a satiric mood coming on right about now ... stay tuned.
[Thanks, Markus!]

@zourskittles: Well just like the post subliminally implied it. Think about the situation. Mr. Hecker works for a big publishing/production company that aspires to sell games for EVERY platform. So when one of their guys goes out on stage and utters his opinion about a new console that falls back onto the company. As you can see from the comments on the original article about the rant there is quite a lot of fanboy passion involved in this and as we all should know ... If fanboys hate you they will badmouth your company, your games -hell even your kids if they know them. So as suggested EA/Maxis probably called the Heckster and told him: "Be a little less yourself if you want to get paid, we need all the customers wii can get" (

It's not just fanboi actions, meist3r. A lot of his Criticism were fairly groundless.
For instance, while the Wii may be underpowered compared to 360 or PS3, it's still a much more powerful GC. And while very few games ever approached the GC's limits, there were still some beautiful games produced: Windwaker, RE4(cut-scenes rendered real-time baby!), Twilight Princess. I think when programmers get accustomed to the Wii, they'll be able to produce some VERY nice looking titles.
Next, an artist shouldn't blame their tools. Or else, we'd see cartoonists screaming about how pencil and pens are insufficient, and that they need the latest Wacom tablet and Photoshop software. From Hecker's stance, ALL systems are insufficient, save for the PC which is continually growing and becoming more powerful.
And of course, Hecker's apology only highlites the faulty wiring in his brain.
""When I'm on stage, I'm me -- I think the Wii is a piece of shit. Except I don't. Or maybe I do. I don't know what I'm saying anymore except that I want to keep my job"
CORRECTED.

My husband, who works in the industry and knows a few of the programmers working on Spore, says he sees what Hecker was trying to say. He also said from Hecker's point of view, some of his comments made sense. However, if he had a good point, it got lost in the flaming rhetoric he delivered it wrapped up in. Trying to make a point while raving like a slavering fanboy destroys one's credibility.
There are probably plenty of programmers out there who can say "Hey, I don't like the Wii, and here's why;" and can back up their points with well-reasoned arguments. But then, they're not quite as entertaining.

I don't think its what he said that caused EA and Nintendo to bring the hammer down, but how he said it
If he had said "I have concerns as to the Wii's lack of horsepower" Instead of "The Wii is a piece of shit/two GCs duct taped together" then none of this would've happened
Karma is fun
