And we all thought we were safe from these horror stories poppiing back up again on the internet, what with Nintendo hooking us all up with replacement straps. Instead, we must now inform you that such an incident occurred during an Auto Show in Trier, Germany, where one overzealous player caused the wrist strap (we're assuming it was the original strap that came with the console) to snap, sending a flying Wiimote into the window of a nearby Volkswagon Lupo. Clearly, based on the report, the entire incident was all the player's fault, as he really did not need to exhibit the "strengths" of the wrist strap to the gentleman waiting in line to play behind him. Still, the person responsible was able to muster up the courage to blame Nintendo for its "gross negligence."

"I'll show you it can't be broken." Just wrist strap, possibly old model, in hand proceeds to thrash violently to break said plastic projectile with battery and cover shrapnel at an auto expo with expensive cars. To a man behind him who warns him of the dangers presented by those in the US of potential damage to TVs and windows. When strap breaks he apologizes "Oops" but then "Nintendo is at fault for gross negligence. They didn't make the strap strong enough that my violent thrashing broke it."

Darn comment system did it again. Occasionally it won't even show the comments, sometimes still asks for email confirmation, and this is the second time it's made me double post. How much do you think those repairs will cost? Think he could actually sue Nintendo for being so stupid that he meant to break the strap and possibly injure someone?

Looks like they're going to have to start bundling the wiimotes with super glue so that these idiots can glue them to their hands.

When I got my strap replacement from Nintendo, I tried everything I could to break the old strap. I honestly couldn't. I even tried tearing it with my teeth. All the "Wiimotes flying into HDTVs" reports really boggled my mind.
Real men don't use the strap at all, of course. :)

AFAIK there hasn't been any replacement-campaign around here, I guess because there haven't been (m)any news on broken stuff...
(I still believe this is because you can't sue Nintendo for a million or two in Europe; The cost of the TV and a new Wiimote maybe, but not more... On the other hand, has anyone of the US-TV-killers ever sued Nintendo?)

Did anybode even have a look at the pictures? It's a clear fake. Why is there a (clearly!) photoshopped Wii in the car - which btw. isn't a Lupo; I don't even think it's a VW.
And I really want to see a guy who can smash a Lupo's window from several metres distance with a Wiimote.
