Reuters has an interesting piece up where they analyze the current state of the console war, taking a look at all three major console's offerings. Most important, however, is the dominance the Wii is enjoying right now, as they take a look at the February NPD sales data, along with other factors including price and extra features of each console. Michael Gartenberg of Jupiter Research, who was interviewed for this piece we imagine, thinks that Nintendo has everything to lose.
"Their challenge going forward is to make sure this is not a passing fad by getting a stream of content into the market," he says. Continuing on that same thought, Gartenberg states "The game console purchase driver is still going to be first and foremost games. The secondary stuff is the icing on the cake." We couldn't agree more and, really, this is the reason we think Nintendo will continue to dominate in the long run.
What do you guys think?

Owning both a PS3 and a Wii, this has become a rather debated topic just amoungst myself, let alone with my friends.
I waited outside for two days to get my Wii at the launch. I was pumped, and had really high expectations - almost unrealistic to be truthful. After playing WiiSports, MonkyBall, WarioWare, and Rayman - although all mini-game based, I felt I could honestly sit back and say that I really did enjoy the Wii more than anything I had played before.
Then one day, back when the first new shipments of PS3's hit the stores I headed out and purchased one for the soul purpose of having a Blu-ray player in the house. After messing around with some of the demo games though I decided to pick up a few titles to play - and the rest is history.
I find that 90% of my time playing video games is now on the PS3. There is no getting around it, the Wii is an amazing machine, which is great for those times when you have friends around, but when you want a really great single player experience I find that the PS3 is the only way to go (aside from Zelda).
Sure, it cost me an arm, a leg, and three fingers, but I truly find it to be the better system all around. Although the graphics don't always matter, the definately don't hurt. Resistance is a very good looking game, and has very solid, and fun, gameplay. Same with MotorStorm. I wouldn't doubt for a minute what the analyst say about the PS3 comming out on top - if only for the fact that they have a blu-ray drive.

In response to Post #1. I am completely opposite. My PS3 hardly goes on for games. But I do use it often for Blu-Ray movies. When I look to play games, I look for fun. Wii has fun games. WarioWare, WiiSports, Elebits, SSX Blur, Zelda all offer me great multi & single player experiences. Right now PS3 offers me nothing of relevance as far as gaming goes. If I want pretty graphics & killer single player modes I stick with 360 & gain achievements. There is no winning arguement to this topic, I think there is a market for all systems, but I think Wii will have lasting value, and not just a 6 million unit seller "fad".

In my opinion, the Wii will continue to sell out and be hard to find straight through the holidays.
Right now the Wii is riding on the wave of good reviews and good word of mouth. This will continue for at least the next few months.
However, when things could potentially start to slow down you have numerous triple AAA titles coming, like Super Smash Bros., Super Mario Galaxy, and Metroid Prime 3. Additionally you have the start of Wi-Fi gaming on Wii.
The momentum will carry Wii sales through mid-year and then top titles will continue to carry Wii sales even more.

I have to disagree with Wonderflex.
My Ps3 is sitting there collecting dust. I have both motorstorm and Resistance and I always walk away with just a meh feeling. Don't get me wrong, they are gorgeous, but there is nothing really there. With the Wii I feel like I am having fun whenever and whatever I ply. One thing I have to note is that other than Zelda, everything else seems to be a game where you play it for 20 minutes then wait, play for another 20 minutes, etc. I don't understand why I do this. However, my favorite console is a close race between the wii and 360. I am constantly playing them both.

If you like your PS3 more.. you would love a xbox 360 (more games, less price, and about the same visuals).

I've also lost that loving feeling for my Wii. I have a 65" television and the poor graphics really standout. I'm using RCA cables, but as I understand it, the composite cables don't really help the Wii graphics.

Everyone who is saying that their PS3 gets more playtime than their Wii, what the HELL are you playing? There's only 3 titles worth even playing on that system, let alone owning. It's the best Blu-Ray player out there, but it's pretty pathetic that a game console is being hailed at the best Blu-Ray player instead of the leading console. I'm not biased to any console for those who may think so, I love games in general, console & PC.
