One of the three Sega titles that have been confirmed for the Virtual Console recently has become available, leaving its two friends in the dust as it emerges on Nintendo's service for your downloading pleasure. Alex isn't alone this week, however, as the NES version of Galaga and another Turbografx16 title called BRAVOMAN also become available to download. Here's the specifics:
- Galaga (NES, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points)
- BRAVOMAN (Turbografx16, 1 player, 600 Wii Points)
- Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle (Sega Genesis, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points)

I am sorely disappointed. How could they choose Galaga over Punch-Out!! when the latter is an obviously superior NES game? Europe got that VC game not last Friday but the Friday prior.
The only justification I'll accept is that Nintendo provided us with a weak NES selection so that we could focus this week on Super Paper Mario. Anything less is a disservice to the long-time Nintendo fanboy.

I've been waiting for Galaga ever since they released it over in the UK. It's my wife's favorite game (and that's an understatement). I'll have to grab it for her when I get home tonight.

Hey, I've been wondering something. Why do you guys put "Via Press Release" there instead of just linking it?
http://press.nintendo.com/articles.jsp?id=11863
That link is available to everyone. I mean, it's not like Nintendo considers sites like this one legitimate members of "THE PRESS" or anything.
Just curious.

Brandon,
We do that because we receive a press release from Nintendo before they put it up live on the website. That's why, in this post, I put in the press release bit instead of linking to the site.
Thanks for reading!
Dave

I was hoping for some Paper Mario VC goodness today to prime us all for buying it this week.
Oh well.

Blah. Galaga for the NES? I haven't played it, but I doubt it's as good as the arcade version, which I bought on Xbox 360. Nintendo needs to stop putting out NES versions of arcade games. Super Mario Bros for the NES sucked compared to the arcade version; I bought it before I realized that's what it was. I wouldn't waste my money.

Look at the arcade machines very carefully. Notice the difference in technology between Donkey Kong and Tekken 5? Yeah that's an exaggeration but should serve the purpose. To put out arcade games even if they used the same boards and technology like Radar Scope and DK, the arcade games would require their own emulator whereas the emulators for the consoles would fit more neatly for every one of the consoles' games.
That's why they haven't put out the arcade versions. Theoretically every arcade game would need its own emulator to run. Therefore it's easier to fine-tune a game to run on the emulator for its console.
