Looks like Namco has been sending out a survey, fishing to see if Soul Calibur fans are digging the Wii. The survey was posted on a forum, and if it was posted in entirety, then the Wii is the only console they asked about. Could this be part of the preliminary research on a Soul Calibur title for the Wii? We can't express how much we hope that's the case. The Wii Fanboy staff spends a lot of its limited spare time discussing various fighting franchises, and there is some serious Soul Calibur love around here. If it were done well ... frankly, the level of our obsession might rival the Gyakuten Saiban love that dominates DS Fanboy. We'll be watching this one closely, looking for any and all scraps of rumor. Who's with us? And what do you think about fighting games on the Wii in general?

Great link...no, wait, that didn't take me to the thread so I can see this survey and judge for myself.

Soul Caliber on Gamecube is my all time favorite fighter. I would love to have a new SC for my Wii, maybe with some new exclusive characters.

I don't play much fighting games, the only two I've played for more than half an hour are Melee and Soul Calibur 2, and they were awesome.

I am an experienced Soul Calibur player and the amount of moves and combos that are possible in the 3 (+1 if you count Soul Edge) iterations so far is pretty incredible. My worry about Soul Calibur on Wii is that people might expect a direct 1-to-1 control of the Wii remote to the character's sword, and I honestly believe that this isn't likely. What is more likely is that swinging the remote vertically will correspond to the tradtional vertical attack button, and swinging horizontally will correspond to the horizontal attack button. At that point, when you've got just a general motion corresponding to a button press, why bother? Also, there are differences between long and short button presses, differences between pressing two buttons at the same time and rolling from one to the other, etc. You would have to make a far simpler sword fighting game that was more realistic (ie a fencing simulation) with no combos or special moves and only if you could get the Wii to accurately determine the orientation of the remote.
Let's say Soul Calibur for Wii only used buttons and no motion sensing. How would you do the button setup at that point? A=horizontal, B=vertical, Z=guard, C=kick? I don't really know if that would feel right, sounds like a job for an arcade stick to me.
In any case, Namco would need to do some *serious* work to get the game playable and truly fun with the remote/nunchuck combo.

SCII on GCN is one of the few games I bought pre college although used. Link and Nightmare for me. My brother liked Raphael and Misturu. Yoshimitsu is fun. Imagine having Link or FE lords in there.

It would be awesome.
But only if there was an option to use the classic controller.

AAAAAAH! I could scream like a school girl right now!! My favorite series comes to the Wii!!!
*cough* right
@Matt N
I wouldn't worry about it. It'll probably be awhile until (and if) it gets released so the controls will probably be better, and namco has always done a stellar job on the SC series. I'm not worried.

Frickin' Namco. I really, really loved Soul Caliber II
on the 'Cube. I personally thought Link was the coolest
console specific character. Game Cube owner's actually went out and bought the most copies of Soul Caliber II as
opposed to the PS2 and Xbox owners.
How does Namco pay us back? Well of course they screw us (for the big bucks)with no SC III. Thanks guys, you could
have at least put out a II.5 deal. Couple new guys couple new weapons a new costume whatever no dice.
Now here we are in 2007 and Namco want's to know what
Wii owners think. I say hurry the heck up.
If you guys are thinking multi-platform again, Dante
for the PS3. Morons.

SC on Wii? God no... it'd lose to Smash!. Smash is a better design for a Wii fighter.. Simpler controls, and more people can play it. How many Smash tourneys have i seen? many... no SC2 toruneys.
